The ordinary family benefit is determined by the rank of the child compared to the otherqualifying children educated within the same family. The amounts are the following:- rank 1 86.77 EUR per month for salaried persons and 81.15 EUR for self-employedpersons- rank 2 160.55 EUR per month- rank 3 and following 239.72 EUR per month(Amounts on 1 July 2011)If a child no longer qualifies for family benefits because it no longer fulfils the required conditions,the other children go up one place in the ranking (a child of rank 2 becomes a child of rank 1,etc.).When a child is placed with a private person through the agency or by order of a public authority,the allottee who received family benefits for this child receives, under certain conditions, a lumpsumbenefit. This lump-sum benefit amounts to 57.22 EUR (on 1 July 2011). In the scheme forself-employed persons, the lump-sum benefit amounts to 29.61 EUR for the first child and to59.22 EUR as from the second child (on 1 July 2011).Orphans always receive 333.33 EUR (on 1 July 2011). They continue to be entitled as long as theirsurviving parent has no new partner living together with the family.As to the supplementary allowances, there are five possibilities:1) Age allowanceDepending on the child's age, you will receive a supplementary allowance to the ordinary familybenefits. We distinguish between three age groups: from 6 to 12, from 12 to 18 and those fromage 18 onwards. Transitional measures apply in favour of children born before 1991.2) Supplement for single-parent familiesThe ordinary family benefits for a person who raises his child alone are increased with asupplement of 44.17 EUR for the first child, 27.38 EUR for the second child and 22.08 EUR for thethird child and each of the following children, on the condition that this person does not form ade facto family, that he is not married, unless the marriage is followed by a divorce, and that hisprofessional and/or replacement income does not exceed a certain amount (2,144.07 EUR permonth and 1,715.26 EUR net per month for a self-employed person, amounts on 1 July 2011).If this person already receives a <strong>social</strong> supplement on the basis of the situation of the beneficiary,the <strong>social</strong> supplement for the third child and for each of the following children is replaced by thesupplement for single-parent families.3) Yearly supplement to the family allowanceThe ordinary family benefits and the orphan’s allowance for July are increased with a yearly agesupplement. This supplement varies between 26.53 EUR and 79.59 EUR depending on the age(amounts on 1 July 2011).25
