THORDON WATER QUALITY PACKAGEPrinciples of OperationA steady supply of relatively abrasive free water is animportant element in ensuring long, predictable, bearingwear life. With this factor in mind, Thordon has developeda self-contained supply, conditioning and monitoringpackage to ensure that an adequate supply of clean wateris consistently being delivered to both the forward seal andthe bearings. The Thordon Water Quality Package is designed to supplyseawater to the stern tube bearings for lubrication andcooling at a minimum flow rate of 0.15 litre/minute/mm (1US gallon/minute/inch) of shaft diameter and to removesuspended particles larger than 50 microns from the watersupply. A flow alarm is incorporated to alert the operatorto any low water flow condition to the bearings. TheThordon Water Quality Package is designed to operate on astand-alone basis, or can be fully integrated into the ship'scontrol and monitoring systems to allow operation in anunmanned machinery space.Thordon offers three Water Quality Packages in twoconfigurations designed to deliver flow to suit a wide rangeof shaft sizes, and provide an appropriate degree ofredundancy for the vessel involved.Technical InformationFrame Size (footprint): 1120 mm x 710 mm x 1220 mm(45" x 28" x 48”)Weight: 275 kg. The suction and dischargepiping should not be smaller than the inlet and outletconnections. The suction line must maintain adequatesuction pressure and allow for smooth liquid flow to ensureproper pump operation.Thordon Water Quality PackagePump and Separator OptionsFlow CapacityOptions45 - 90 l/min.(12 - 24 GPM)75 - 150 l/min.(20 - 40 GPM)Single Pump/Single SeparatorSingle Pump/Single SeparatorDouble Pump/Double SeparatorDouble Pump/Double Separator150 - 280 l/min.(40 - 75 GPM)Single Pump/Single SeparatorDouble Pump/Double SeparatorBP Shipping-owned Alaskan Frontier equipped with ThordonWater Quality Package and COMPAC water lubricatedpropeller shaft bearingsThordon Bearings designs and manufactures a complete range of non metallic, high performance, environmentally friendly marine propeller shaftbearings, rudder bearings and offshore bearing systems for ship repair, conversion or new build projects.
