The entrance fees from museums and historical sites broughtan income of TL 26 million in 2002. At the end of 2013 that number isprojected to reach revenue of $ 265 million. This enormous increaseof 978 per cent in 10 years, is the result of the investment in accesscontrol systems and the rigorous application of public income raisingrules. On May 4, we reached an all-time high with 113 thousand 233people total daily number of visitors. This success is the fruit of ouractive efforts in the field of marketing and promotion since the beginningof 2013.■ Faaliyet alanı bununla bitmiyor tabii. DÖSİMM’in diğer faaliyetalanlarından da söz eder misiniz?Bizim en önemli uygulamalarımız tabii ki müze ve ören yerlerinin deteknoloji ile donatılması ve ziyaretçilerimizin buralardan yüksek verimalması için gereken her türlü donanım ve hizmetin verilmesi.Onun dışında müze ve ören yerlerimizin günümüzde dünyanın öndegelen müzelerinin tamamında mevcut olan nitelikli müze mağazaları vekafeteryalarına sahip olmasını sağlamak ve böylelikle çağdaş bir anlayışlayönetilen müzelerde ticari operasyon gelirlerinin toplam gelirleriçindeki payını artırabilmek için 2009 yılında hayata geçirilen “Müze veÖren Yerleri Satış Alanları ve Ticari Faaliyetlerin Yönetimi, Yürütülmesi,Geliştirilmesi, Ürün ve Hizmet Tedariki Projesi” kapsamında Bilkent6CTM Konferansı2015 yılında, İstanbul’da bir ilk olarak hayata geçirmeyi planladığımız“Communicating the Museum (CTM)” konferansı, müze profesyonelleriiçin özel olarak düzenlenecek.Konferans, müze iletişimi konusunda bir dünya markası niteliğinde vealanında düzenlenen en prestijli ve gözde konferanslar arasında yeralmaya aday.Katılımcı ve yenilikçi bir format benimseyen bir konferans. Amacıise uzmanların görüş ve deneyimlerini paylaşabileceği münazaralar,atölye çalışmaları, tartışma grupları ile uluslararası bir platformuİstanbul’da yaratmak. CTM gibi tüm dünyada itibar görmüş uluslararasıbir konferans ile kentimizi hem kültür sanat hem de turizmdünyasında gözde bir destinasyon haline getirebilmek.CTM konferansı ile; Türk Müzelerini bir dünya markası olarak konumlandırmayı,uluslararası bir halkla ilişkiler kampanyası yaratmayıamaçlıyoruz.CTM ConferenceIn 2015, we plan to organize for the first time in İstanbul a “Communicatingthe Museum (CTM)” conference, to be held exclusivelyfor museum professionals. The Conference is destined to become aglobal brand as one of the most prestigious conferences in the field ofmuseums’ communication. We aim to convert the opportunity into aninternational public relations campaign for the worldwide promotion ofTurkish museums.The purpose of the conference which will adopt an innovative participatoryformat will be to create an international platform in İstanbulwhere experts and professionals can share their views and experiencesthrough debates, workshops and discussion groups. We believe that themomentum created through a prestigious conference such as CTM willcontribute to İstanbul’s worldwide positioning as a prime destination interms of culture, art and tourism.Museums Journal: The scope of your endeavours is wider thanthat as we know. Would you please tell us about DÖSİMM’s otherareas of activity?Our main task has to do with providing the museums and historicalplaces with state-of-the-art technology and offering visitors thebenefit of high-efficiency equipment and service. We are implementingsince 2009, the “Museums and Historical Sites’ Sales Areas andCommercial Activities Management, Implementation, Development,Product and Service Procurement Project” in cooperation with anorganization called “Bilkent Cultural Initiative”. This is a joint ventureinvolved in establishing and operating museum stores and cafeteriasin all museums and historical sites, similar to those existing in mostmajor museums of the world, with a view to increasing the shareof commercial operations within the total amount of income frommuseums and historical sites. While there were only 11 sales units inour museums before this project, we now run, as of January 2013, atotal of 100 sales units including 57 stores and 43 cafés at 50 museumsand historical sites, called into operation without the use of anypublic funds.The “Traditional Handicrafts and Stores Operations Directorate”(GES), which is under DÖSİMM’s administration, is conducting effortsfor the promotion, marketing and development of traditionalhandicrafts including research, production support through purchaseand distribution of the publications of the Ministry of Culture andTourism. We have 9 GES stores and the “Traditional Handicrafts VirtualStore” at the (www.ges.gov.tr) web site for online sales. We alsoaim at transforming GES into an institute that provides training andaccreditation through collaboration with artists and universities.How would you describe your contributions to the activities of theMinistry?DÖSİMM provides support to the activities of the Ministry, in termsof the cleaning and security services of excavation and surface re-DÖSİMM Merkez Müdürü Çetin Arslan “Haydi Gençler Müzeye” projesi kapsamındaçeşitli illerden İstanbul’a getirtilen öğrencilere hediyelerini veriyor.DÖSİMM Central Director Çetin Arslan presents gifts to the students from differentprovinces visiting İstanbul within the “Come along Youth to Museums” project.
