The eventwas officiated by Y.B. Dato SriDouglas Uggah Embas, Minister ofNatural Resources and Environmentat Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre(KLCC) on 26 July 2010. <strong>GIS</strong>Development and The Institution ofSurveyors, <strong>Malaysia</strong> (ISM) had jointlyorganised Map Asia 2010 and theISG to the growth of <strong>GIS</strong> and widenits benefits for the <strong>GIS</strong> community.With the theme “ConnectingGovernment and Citizen throughUbiquitous <strong>GIS</strong>”, Map Asia 2010and ISG 2010 turned out to be aphenomenal success where there wasan active and dynamic participation ofover 1358 members (801 registereddelegates and 557 exhibition visitors)of <strong>GIS</strong> community from over 41countries. An elegant ceremony markedthe inaugural of Map Asia 2010and ISG 2010 conference at theKuala Lumpur Convention Centre whilerecognising the significance ofgeospatial technology for developmentand vowing to raise the profile ofgeospatial industry in the Asiancontinent.The event had gathered a few ideasand approached from both the publicand private sectors on how to growtowards a connected government. Thekey success factor of this conference,is how to deliberate the ideas and getsolutions that give further leverageto the organizations, integratinghorizontally and vertically the nationalgoals. The exhibition involved variousagencies such as from local governmentand private sector which are thelead in Geoinformation technologynowadays. It is an international initiativeaimed to allow sharing and use ofgeospatial technologies. The eventalso had offers a unique networkingand marketing opportunity to the localand international geospatial industryon technology transfer.
