JU opened the 2007-08 CCAC seasonwith a 7-0 record and completed the first-round ofplay undefeated before finishing with a 10-2 record.Last year, JU only defeated Calumet College for theirlone CCAC win.in the NAIABy averaging 21.1 points per game, Dewayne Robinsonfinished 10th in the nation in scoring.Justen Boyd finished 21st in the nation for assists at4.71 per game.school record for consecutivewinsBy winning seven games in a row to start off theCCAC season, <strong>Judson</strong> broke the school record forconsecutive wins. <strong>Judson</strong> started the win streak witha 102-71 win over Purdue-North Central. They thenwent on to defeat, Cardinal Stritch, Purdue-Calumet,Trinity International, Calumet College, Trinity Christian,and then broke the record vs. Purdue-NorthCentral starting the second round of play in theCCAC. The streak came to an end with a 100-97double overtime loss to Cardinal Stritch in Wisconsin.<strong>Judson</strong> then fell to Purdue-Calumet but thenwon their next five games before falling to #4 Walshin the NAIA Tournament.cook finishes as men’s coachThe 2007-08 season marked the final season forJim Cook as both the men’s and women’s basketballcoach. In the 2008-09 season, he will just be thewomen’s basketball coach. In his final season as themen’s coach, he finished 19-9 and guided <strong>Judson</strong> totheir finest season ever. He finishes his men’s basketballcareer with a 52-66 record.new era to begin with tompkinsReplacing Jim Cook as the head coach will be TonyTompkins. Tompkins was the associate head coachin the 2007-08 season and helped with <strong>Judson</strong>’s bestseason, ever. Tompkins comes to <strong>Judson</strong> after beingat Missouri Baptist for five seasons and has a 110-47overall record. He was named the AMC Coach of theYear, twice, and guided MBU to two NAIA Division ITournament appearances and won two AMC regularseason championships and one AMC TournamentChampionship. He also had 14 All-AMC selectionsand four NAIA All-Americans.Dominating seniors<strong>Judson</strong> had five seniors with three playing for<strong>Judson</strong> all four seasons. Justen Boyd, ChrisOates, and Joe Gonnam were a part of the programall four years while Steffan Williams andIlija Bojanic played for two years. Boyd, Gonnam,and Oates are all in the <strong>Judson</strong> recordbooks for their play.Justen Boyd finished second in assists (500),fifth in games played (118), eighth in free throwsattempted (441) and assists per game (4.2),ninth in points (1,399), steals (133) and fieldgoals attempted (1054), and 10th in field goalsmade (537).Joe Gonnam is eighth in blocked shots (67) and12th in games played (111). Chris Oates finishedfourth in blocks (82).1,000 point scorersIn unique fashion, <strong>Judson</strong> sported four playersin one season that each had over 1,000 careerpoints. Justen Boyd came into the season withmore than 1,000 points but Dewayne Robinson,Joe Gonnam, and Chris Oates all reached themark during the season. Robinson passed the1,000 point mark early in the season while Gonnamand Oates came at the end of the season.Robinson is currently eighth all-time in scoringwith 1,422 points while Boyd finished at ninthwith 1,399. Gonnam became the 24th playerto reach 1,000 points finishing with 1,064 whileOates was the 25th player and finished with1,029.in the naia national pollThree times in the 2007-08 season <strong>Judson</strong>received votes in the national poll. After beingin the poll two weeks in a row at the endof January, they fell out due to two consecutivelosses. With a win over Trinity Christian,who was receiving votes at the time, to endthe regular season, <strong>Judson</strong> jumped backinto the national poll with eight votes. In many sports,they are structured as part of the RegionVII of the NAIA while in some sports theconference champion qualifies directly fornational competition. The CCAC sanctionsplay in five men’s sports which are soccer, cross country, basketballdivision I, basketball division II, and baseball. There are six sanctionedwomen’s sports which are soccer, volleyball, cross country, basketballdivision I, basketball division II, and softball. In all sports, it sanctionsregular-season league play as well as a post-season tourney.
