Student Disability Services<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>School</strong> fosters an environment that encourages<br />

student services and programs, the school emphasizes the<br />

importance of recogniz<strong>in</strong>g and embrac<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>dividual<br />

Student Disability Services assists students who may need<br />

special accommodations as required by the Americans<br />

with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and Section 504 of<br />

the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973. If you have either<br />

a temporary or chronic disability of any k<strong>in</strong>d, please<br />

submit medical documentation to Student Disability<br />

Intercultural Support/HEOP<br />

<strong>The</strong> Office of Intercultural Support (OIS) works with<br />

students of diverse backgrounds to build community at<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>School</strong>. OIS offers <strong>in</strong>dividual counsel<strong>in</strong>g<br />

services and sponsors events and workshops to promote<br />

<strong>in</strong>tercultural awareness. <strong>The</strong> staff works closely with<br />

recognized student organizations as well as the University<br />

Diversity Committee. <strong>The</strong> office also adm<strong>in</strong>isters the<br />

Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program<br />

and the Student Ombuds Office.<br />

Diversity Initiative<br />

<strong>The</strong> University Diversity Committee is be<strong>in</strong>g<br />

reconstituted as the Diversity and Social Justice<br />

Committee. <strong>The</strong> new name reflects the broaden<strong>in</strong>g of the<br />

mission beyond encourag<strong>in</strong>g diversity to build<strong>in</strong>g<br />

structures and promot<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>teractions that foster socially<br />

fair relationships among different groups. <strong>The</strong> committee<br />

is currently draft<strong>in</strong>g a new mission statement, which will<br />

be available on the <strong>New</strong> <strong>School</strong> website when it has been<br />

approved by the adm<strong>in</strong>istration.<br />

CAMPUS CRIME REPORTING AND<br />

STATISTICS<br />

<strong>The</strong> Security and Advisory Committee on Campus Safety<br />

will provide upon request all campus crime statistics as<br />

reported to the United States Department of Education.<br />

Anyone wish<strong>in</strong>g to review the University’s current crime<br />

statistics may access them through the website for the<br />

Department of Education: ope.ed.gov/security. A copy of<br />

the statistics may also be obta<strong>in</strong>ed by contact<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

Director of Security for <strong>The</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>School</strong> at 212.229.5101.<br />

UNIVERSITY RESOURCES AND<br />

FACILITIES<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>School</strong> is located <strong>in</strong> Manhattan’s Greenwich<br />

Village, with a few facilities elsewhere <strong>in</strong> Manhattan. For<br />

My<strong>New</strong><strong>School</strong><br />

My<strong>New</strong><strong>School</strong> is the university’s customizable web<br />

portal located at My.<strong>New</strong>school.edu. Through a s<strong>in</strong>gle<br />

secure sign-on process, students can access their<br />

university email account, view and make changes to their<br />

student records, participate <strong>in</strong> onl<strong>in</strong>e courses, receive<br />

personal and campus announcements, explore library<br />

resources, view the f<strong>in</strong>ancial aid award status, and much<br />

more. Most student bus<strong>in</strong>ess is transacted onl<strong>in</strong>e through<br />

My<strong>New</strong><strong>School</strong>, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g register<strong>in</strong>g for classes,<br />

verify<strong>in</strong>g f<strong>in</strong>ancial aid awards, mak<strong>in</strong>g payment<br />

arrangements, and view<strong>in</strong>g f<strong>in</strong>al grades. <strong>New</strong> students are<br />

notified when their My<strong>New</strong><strong>School</strong> account has been<br />

established.<br />

Libraries<br />

<strong>New</strong> <strong>School</strong> libraries offer a full array of workshops and<br />

lab classes for students and faculty. Individual reference<br />

appo<strong>in</strong>tments are available upon request from students<br />
