Grid Job Routing Algorithms2 TerminologyIn this section some definitions particularly relevant in the context of Grid job routing algorithms are provided incase with reference to the originator documentKeyword Source DefinitionGrid [OGF-GFD81] A system that is concerned with the integration, virtualization, and management of services and resources in a distributed, heterogeneous environment that supports collections of usersand resources (virtual organizations) across traditionaladministrative and organizational domains (real organizations).Optical Grid [OGF-GFD36] It is a new topological solution where the network topology isrequired to migrate from the traditional edge-core telecommodel to a distributed model where the user is in the very heartof the network. In this type of network the user would have theability to establish true peer-to-peer networking (i.e. controlrouting in an end-to-end way and the set up and teardown oflight-paths between routing domains). To facilitate this level ofuser control, users or applications will be offeredmanagement/control or even ownership of the networkresources from processing and storage capacity to bandwidthallocation (i.e. wavelength and sub-wavelength). Theseresources could be leased and exchanged between Grid users. This solution will have a direct impact on the design of opticalnetwork elements (optical cross-connects, add-dropmultiplexers etc) and will impose new demands to the interfacebetween the Grid user and network (GUNI). The networkinfrastructure, including network elements and user interface, must enable and support OGSA.
