<strong>EJTN</strong> training guideline in <strong>European</strong> <strong>Criminal</strong> <strong>Justice</strong> - Update 2011In December 2008, the Joint Action was replaced by Council Decision2008/976/JHA which is more detailed than the Joint Action but mainly confirmsthe current functioning of the EJN. It also clarifies the relationship with Eurojust.At the 32nd plenary meeting of the EJN, held in Prague, from 24 to 26 June2009, Guidelines were adopted to provide guidance for the structure of the EJNaccording to the EJN Decision, as well as for the organisation of regionalmeetings.The <strong>European</strong> Judicial Network Manual was adopted in the 33rd Plenarymeeting of the EJN on the 23-24 November 2009. The main purpose of thisdocument is to identify actions required in order to achieve objectives regardingEJN as stated by <strong>European</strong> legal instruments. The second purpose of the EJNManual is to locate responsibility for required action.Finally, in February 2010, the EJN launched a new tool on its website called the'EJN Forum'. The EJN Forum is a discussion platform for EJN contact points aswell as all interested legal practitioners. Its first topic of discussion deals with theuse and gathering of foreign evidence obtained through mutual legal assistancein criminal proceedings.Beginning of June 2011, the EJN has launched its restructured and redesignedwebsite. The new website includes various new tools such as a Library or updateson the Member States’ implementation of relevant EU instruments.Training contentTraining on the EJN should cover the following topics:How the EJN can better facilitate judicial cooperation between memberstates;How the EJN can provide legal and practical information necessary for thelocal authorities to prepare an effective request for judicial cooperation;Coordinating functions in cases where a series of requests from localjudicial authorities in a member state needs coordinated action in anothermember state;Use of the EJN ‘Compendium’, a tool that allows all the local judicialauthorities to execute a complete letter of request;Information tools about videoconferencing and secure telecommunicationnetworks.2.
