AWARD CATEGORIESPRAIRIE CROCUS AWARDThe Prairie Crocus Award honours professionals who have made a significant, long term contribution to recreation, parks <strong>and</strong>/or leisureservices within the Province of Manitoba.Nominees for this award will:• have worked in the recreation profession for a minimum of 10 years• have promoted <strong>and</strong> advanced the values <strong>and</strong> benefits of recreation, parks <strong>and</strong>/or leisure• by their actions, have had a positive impact on individuals, families <strong>and</strong> community in terms of both growth <strong>and</strong> development• have contributed to the profession through active participation on committees, special initiatives <strong>and</strong> /or projects with local <strong>and</strong>/or regionalassociationsThe statement of nomination for this award should respond to <strong>and</strong> include examples:• What are the nominee’s unique <strong>and</strong> outst<strong>and</strong>ing achievements?• How has the nominee contributed to advancing the recreation, parks <strong>and</strong>/or leisure profession?• How has this nominee contributed as a role model for others in the profession?PRESIDENT’S AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTThe President’s Award for Outst<strong>and</strong>ing Achievement recognizes community, regional or provincial recreation projects, initiatives, programsor events that have demonstrated significant impact <strong>and</strong>/or sustainability for the growth <strong>and</strong> development of recreation, parks or leisure services.Nominations should be submitted for a recreation professional or group of recreation professionals who have made a substantial contribution.Achievement areas include but are not limited to…• a recreation, parks, leisure, arts, cultural or sport project, initiative, program <strong>and</strong>/or event• active living initiative or campaign• development of recreation leaders – staff, volunteers, instructors, coaches, etc.• design, development or upgrade of a recreation facility/venue• management of a recreation facility• outdoor or environmental education• community recreation development/partnership building• public awareness about recreation services <strong>and</strong> the benefits/value of recreation• advancement or advocacy of the recreation professionNominees for this award will:• through their actions, have enhanced the quality of life of its citizens through recreation, parks <strong>and</strong>/or leisure services• have demonstrated innovation, resourcefulness (ingenuity) <strong>and</strong> vision• have demonstrated leadership in supporting <strong>and</strong> promoting the project, initiative, program or event• have displayed ways that the project, initiative, program or event has impacted the community, region or province• have displayed ways that the project, initiative, program or event has been sustained over time (if applicable)The statement of nomination for this award should respond to <strong>and</strong> include examples:• How has this project/initiative/program/event contributed to the social, intellectual <strong>and</strong>/or physical well-being of the community<strong>and</strong> its citizens?• How has it impacted on the overall quality of life for its citizens?• Does this project/initiative/program/event have a lasting impact?STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARDThe Student Leadership Award recognizes a student who has made a significant contribution to recreation, parks <strong>and</strong>/or leisure servicesthrough his/her volunteer activities, work experience <strong>and</strong> academic studies. This recipient of this award will also receive a $200.00 honorarium.Nominees for this award will:• have a high average in academic studies• have demonstrated positive leadership among her/his peers• have been active in the recreation field through volunteer activities, work experience <strong>and</strong>/or extracurricular pursuitsThe statement of nomination for this award should respond to <strong>and</strong> include examples:• What are the nominee’s unique <strong>and</strong> outst<strong>and</strong>ing achievements, including academic performance?• How has the nominee contributed as a peer leader?• How has the nominee’s volunteer activities, work experience <strong>and</strong>/or extracurricular pursuits influenced his/her career aspiration?


NOMINATION AND SELECTION PROCESSNominations will be evaluated only on the merit of the submission received. As a nominator, it is your responsibility to reflect the achievementsof the nominee <strong>and</strong> draw out their exceptional nature for the Selection Committee. The nomination form must be completed, signed <strong>and</strong> allsupporting material enclosed. While only members may be nominated for an award, individuals, groups or organizations may be nominators.The nomination package for each nominee will be reviewed by the Nomination Committee. Incomplete submissions will not be considered.Nominees <strong>and</strong> nominators will be advised in writing whether their nomination has been accepted <strong>and</strong> their package forwarded to the SelectionCommittee.Recipients will be chosen in each category by the Selection Committee, an independent group consisting of members of Recreation ConnectionsManitoba. The decisions of the Selection Committee are final. The recipient of an award will be notified in advance. All nominees will alsoreceive notification of the selection committee’s decision.The Selection Committee reserves the right to withhold an award in any category.Nomination Criteria:• Nominee must be a member in good st<strong>and</strong>ing with Recreation Connections Manitoba• Must be a resident of Manitoba• Consent to their nomination by signing the nomination form• Student Leadership Award only – must be at least 18 years of age <strong>and</strong> enrolled full-time in an undergraduate Recreation, RecreationManagement or related academic program from a recognized College or University in Manitoba• Any individual (member or non-member), group or organization may be nominators• Current RCM staff, Board members, <strong>Awards</strong> Steering & Selection Committee members are not eligibleNomination Submission Requirements:• Complete the Nomination Form• Submit a Statement of Nomination. Please respond to the three (3) questions in the respective award category.
