The company is privately-owned, successful and profitable, and we have goodrelationships with our suppliers, distributors and consumers.Sales have grown steadily from the outset, and the company recently won Queen's Awards <strong>for</strong> Enterprisein both the International Trade and Innovation categories. About 2/3 of output is exported, withGermany and the Netherlands historically being the largest overseas markets, but sales are growingstrongly everywhere, especially in Asia, other parts of Europe and North America. Demand often exceedsour ability to supply, though great ef<strong>for</strong>ts have been made to raise output over recent years and thisshould exceed 45,000 this year.The RoleThe Sales Assistant will join us at a critical moment in the company’s history. As our business continuesto grow and our reach widen, our customers’ experience dealing with us is more important than everAs part of a busy team, you will be responsible <strong>for</strong> delivering Brompton’s service levels, exceeding ourcustomer expectations. You will be a principal figure in our customers’ service experience, handlingenquiries and managing orders and deliveries.As such, you will be able to demonstrate an astute understanding of - and a passionate belief in -exemplary customer service. The Sales Assistant role at Brompton Junction is <strong>for</strong> someone who is keento learn the full breadth of our company’s activities and products, and who is excited by the potential of along-term commitment to this fast-growing British success story.Core DutiesTo ensure the smooth running of the shop, and maintaining the shop standards by:• Participating in the day to day running of the shop• Ensuring a high level of housekeeping to the company’s desired standard, both on and off theshop floor


• Operating the till and accurately handling cash, cheques and credit/debit cards• Responding to orders received from the online shop by processing sales and packaging orders• Following cashing up procedures• Assisting in changing displays of shop stock• Receiving deliveries, unpacking and re‐shelving or storing stock• Assisting with regular stock checks and annual stock takes• Ensuring all fire exits and escape routes are kept free from obstruction• Being vigilant at all times and helping to minimise stock lossCustomer ServiceTo ensure that excellent customer service is demonstrated at all times by:• Developing a good knowledge of Brompton stock, ensuring that customers are in<strong>for</strong>med aboutthe item that they have purchased and that purchases are packaged correctly• Responding to general customer enquiries received by phone or email• Working as part of a team with other members of staff; be aware of what is happening in the restof the shop and with Brompton Bicycle and assist the public wherever possibleGeneral• Ensuring any issues concerning customer care are reported to the Manager• Adhering to the current shop standards of presentation <strong>for</strong> dress• Ensuring all Health & Safety procedures are effectively carried out and report any concerns to theManagerAdditional Duties• Attending weekly departmental meetings and factory training sessions when required• Representing the company at the Brompton World Championship, industry shows and externalevents as and where necessaryPersonal RequirementsThe successful candidate will have good knowledge of the Brompton bicycle; in addition to this:• Excellent retail experience and a good knowledge of the brand and the industry• Astute understanding of - and a passionate belief in - exemplary customer service• First class written and verbal communication• Confident and diplomatic; a team member who can liaise with a range of stakeholders• An understanding of Brompton’s ethos and how this has shaped its brand values• A broad understanding of today’s bicycle industry and Brompton’s place in it• Personable and engaging, both internally and as an ambassador <strong>for</strong> Brompton BicyclePrepared by: Michelle Nolan – Head of HRDate: 1st August 2013How to Apply: Apply in writing with CV to Michelle Nolan – michelle@brompton.co.ukClosing date: 15th August 2013; no applications will be accepted after 17:00 on that day.The company reserves the right to vary or amend the duties and responsibilities of the post holder at any time according to theneeds of the company’s business.The statements contained in this job description reflect general details as necessary to describe the principal functions of this job,the level of knowledge and skill typically required and the scope of responsibility.
