50CHAPTER-XIFISHERIES DEPARTMENT AND ROLE OF PRIs /GBsFUNCTION/ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT1. Survey <strong>for</strong> feasibility <strong>and</strong> scope of aquaculture in the district.2. Formulation of schemes <strong>and</strong> execution of the same.3. Providing financial assistance <strong>and</strong> technical assistance to the fishfarmers.4. Production <strong>and</strong> supply of quality of fish seed to fishers.5. Imparting training to fish farmers/SHGs6. Management of all the natural water logged <strong>and</strong> swampy areas, lakes,Fish mahals, rivers <strong>and</strong> streams.VARIOUS SCHEMES OF THE DEPARTMENT1. Rural aquaculture2. Fish farmers development agency(FFDA)3. Paddy cum fish culture4. Cold water fish culture5. Reclamation of Beels, Lakes <strong>and</strong> Swamps.6. Fishery extension programmePresently the following two schemes are being implemented in Lohit <strong>and</strong>Anjaw Districts.1. Rural aquacultureIt is a State sponsored Scheme. New fish ponds are constructed under thisscheme. The subsidy pattern in this scheme is 25%Govt. subsidy <strong>and</strong> 75%beneficiary’s contribution. Subsidy is provided both <strong>for</strong> construction of fishponds as well as on inputs like fish seed, feed etc.2. Fish farmers development agency (FFDA)The scheme is jointly sponsored by the central <strong>and</strong> state Govt. on a sharebasis of 75:25. The subsidy pattern is similar to that of rural aquaculture. Theaim <strong>and</strong> objective of this programme is to generate employment <strong>and</strong> increasefish production.Under the above two schemes beneficiaries are assisted every year inthe District depending on the fund allotment. The minimum water area of Ha.i.e. (50X20X1.5 mtr) is to be taken up by a beneficiary <strong>and</strong> maximum subsidyamount provided by the Govt. <strong>for</strong> construction of such 0.1 ha. Pond is Rs.5250.00 only (Rupee five thous<strong>and</strong> two hundred fifty) only.
