Since then there has beenan alarming increase in the nos of HIV infection as reported to NACO. In 1998all total 71400 HIV positive case was reported. The sero -positivity isextremely high- 22.10 per 1000 people.It is seen that undeveloped <strong>and</strong> underdeveloped countries have a very highrate of infection. It may be attributable to the fact of illiteracy, ignorance, socialtaboo/ norms that don't permits open discussion about sex in the family. Thussex education of adolescent children is negligible. These young people aremost vulnerable to different vices like drug abuse, premarital multiple sex etc<strong>and</strong> become most susceptible species to AIDS. Use of syringes <strong>for</strong> drugaddiction is also very common in our country.IN ARUNACHAL PRADESH the active surveillance has just started <strong>and</strong> thesituation seems to be alarming. In every district hospital a voluntarycounseling center has been established where you can get the HIV test done<strong>and</strong> also further in<strong>for</strong>mation on this issue.
