96iii.iv.By inculcating awareness amongst the general public (grass root level)in village <strong>and</strong> block levels about the impact of encroachment of <strong>for</strong>estl<strong>and</strong> as well as about the National Forest Policy under the logisticsupport of the Forest Department.By <strong>for</strong>ming Village Forest Management Committee (VFMC) in variousvillages under JFM Scheme launched by National Af<strong>for</strong>estationProgramme, Govt. of India.2. ILLEGAL TIMBER OPERATION:-The Department of Environment & Forests, Govt. of A.P has been tryingits best to control the illegal timber operation of the state from time to time withthe limited resources, infrastructures, manpower with the department. In thesame time the Division has been putting its utmost ef<strong>for</strong>t to contain the illegaltimber operation which are undertaken by the unscrupulous people in thedivision. Records speak about the herculean task done by the divisional staffsby seizing logs, vehicles, elephants <strong>and</strong> arresting the culprits as <strong>and</strong> whensuch situation arose. However it is opined that this menace could be control inbetter <strong>and</strong> effective way if the GBs/PRI <strong>and</strong> the public support the departmentin tackling this problem. The GBs/PRI/villagers can help the department incontrolling the illegal timber operation in following ways:-i. By providing timely in<strong>for</strong>mation to the nearest revenue station of thedepartment about the illegal activities.ii.iii.iv.By assisting the staffs of Forest Department in detection of illegal felling,transportation, conversion, stocking at <strong>for</strong>est areas as well as in thevillage.To create awareness amongst the villagers about the conservation,preservation <strong>and</strong> protection of <strong>for</strong>ests <strong>and</strong> <strong>for</strong>est’s resources incollaboration with Forest Department. The villagers should be made toknow that lots of Govt. revenue is evaded by resorting to illegal timberoperation <strong>and</strong> leads to loss of Govt. revenue.By cooperating with the department in all the ef<strong>for</strong>ts of the department incontrolling illegal timber operation in all <strong>for</strong>ms. As the Forest Departmentalone cannot look after this problem owing to the insufficient fund,infrastructure, <strong>and</strong> man-power etc. facilities available with them.3. DEPARTMENTAL TIMBER OPERATION:-It’s a well known fact that Departmental Timber Operation is directlyrelated to revenue earning of the state <strong>and</strong> is a time bound programme. At thesame time, timber is a perishable item as such the entire operation right frommarking to transportation upto designated govt. depot has to be done strictly
