Driving aggressively or braking suddenly displays a blue glow.REQUEST A TEST DRIVEFIND A DEALERHow do you knowif you’re being a morefuel efficient driver?ECO assistModerate acceleration or softer braking displays a blue and green glow.Honda’s Eco Assist works as a visual coachingsystem which changes the colour of yourspeedometer to show you how fuel efficientlyyou’re driving. When you brake or acceleratesharply the speedometer display will glow inblue. Drive in a smooth, controlled way andthe display glows green.When the Econ button is pressed, a greenflower symbol appears on the dashboardto indicate that the Insight is operating ina more fuel efficient mode. Your drivingis then monitored to see how high or lowyour emissions are. Heavy acceleration andaggressive braking increase the amount offuel you use, raise CO2 emissions and reducethe amount of charge in the battery.Optimum cruising and braking displays a green glow.The more economically you drive the morethe flower grows in the Multi-InformationDisplay. At the end of each journey you aregiven an Eco score which is then added toyour lifetime score. But with the seats foldeddown the space opens up to create 584 litreswhen loaded to the window. By using a Bluetooth ®compatible telephone, automatic connection may bemade on start up. Telephone contacts can be easilytransferred onto the system and made accessiblevia the Satellite Navigation screen or through voiceactivated commands. With this system, eventransferring and redialling calls are simple and safe.CVT (Continuously03Variable Transmission)Honda’s innovative variation of the automaticgearbox improves efficiency by adjusting the driveratio in extremely fine increments. This delivers theabsolute optimum ratio to keep the engine in itsmost efficient power range.EBD (Electronic04Brake-force Distribution)This technology works with ABS and maintainsstability by distributing the braking effort betweenthe four wheels of the car, thus compensating forweight transfer.05 Fluid motionUnlike a traditional transmission, the Insight’sContinuously Variable Transmission (CVT) flowsseamlessly between an infinite number of effectivegear ratios. This creates better fuel economy, feweremissions and one of the smoothest rides you’ll find.The figures for the fuel consumption and CO 2emissions are to give you an indication of the car’sperformance. Following legislation by the VCA (VehicleCertification Agency), all car manufacturers generatethese statistics through the same industry standardtest. This allows comparison across all manufacturersand models. The tests use a standard version of themodel and do not take into account optional levelsof equipment, such as different sized wheels, tyresand other factors that can affect the economy of themodel. The test is on a rolling road and there is noadditional weight in the car other than the driver(no passengers or cargo) and it does not accountfor individual driving style, which can mean adifference to the figures achievable in the real world.07 IMAIMA stands for Integrated Motor Assist, which meansthat an electric motor sits alongside the petrol engineit supports. The Insight uses an electric motor toassist the petrol engine, ensuring fuel consumptionand emissions are kept to a minimum. The systemuses the petrol engine as the main source of powerto drive the car. The electric motor combines with theengine to provide torque and power during starts oraccelerating, when engine fuel consumption is usuallyhigh. When the vehicle comes to a halt, the petrolengine stops and the car runs only from the battery.This means no petrol is being consumed and so thereare no emissions.08 ISOFix Child Seat RestraintsThis is the industry standard mechanism for safelysecuring child seats to the chassis of the car. Easierand quicker to use, there is also less risk of securingthe seat incorrectly compared with child seatssecured using seat belts.As well as being assisted by an electric motor, theInsight’s i-VTEC engine has been carefully refined toproduce excellent fuel economy and CO 2 figures.The engine combines three key technologies, VTC andVTEC (that work together to create i-VTEC) and CVT.10 VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist)This technology helps stop the vehicle fromskidding when braking heavily by reducing enginepower or applying braking to an individual wheelto regain control if any slip is detected. It’s our veryown approved version of ESP (Electronic StabilityProgramme).11 VTC (Variable Timing control)This technology alternates the amount of fuel andair that the engine’s cylinders take in, minimising asmuch wastage as possible whilst maximizing power.This means that the Insight can achieve high levels oftorque whether accelerating or cruising at high speed,limiting fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions at thesame time.12VTEC (Variable valve Timing andlift with Electronic Control)Honda’s award winning power system adjusts theengine’s valves to create more power when you needit, especially over rapidly changing engine speeds.It not only delivers lower emissions but also superiorfuel economy over regular petrol engines.>
