Science Fair Project (Proposal)DUE October 4/5, 2012All Science Fair Projects will be split into four parts. We are doing this because we knowthat it is human nature for most of us to put things off until the last minute and then scramble tocomplete the work that needs to be done. This usually creates much stress for everyone. ☹ So,by completing the Science Project in four parts, everyone will have a more enjoyable fairexperience and a lot less stress. ☺By the way, this is a STUDENT PROJECT not a PARENT project.Your Proposal will include the following four (4) things:1. Identify your problem. (Decide what you will do for your experiment.)2. Identify THREE initial places that you have gone to research your topic. These need to bescience journal articles, books, internet sites, etc. Write a brief paragraph about what youhave discovered at each resource. Make sure you include where you found your information.3. Write a hypothesis for your problem. This should refer to your independent and dependentvariables and make a prediction. It also must be testable. Make sure you use the properformat.4. Identify the variables used in your project.Independent/Manipulated variables: There should only be ONE! This is what you areactually testing. You change this variable on purpose.Dependent/Responding variables: These change because of your independent variable. This is usually what you are measuring and allows you to get your results.Controlled Variables/Constants: These are kept the same so that you can tell if yourhypothesis is accurate or not.Control: This is used as a comparison in certain types of experiments, because you cannotcontrol everything. Remember that not all experiments need one. Make sure you describethe control group if your experiment requires one.

Your Proposal is due on Thur/Fri (Oct. 4/5). I will want to look over this material so I canprovide you feedback. Please make sure everything is legible. I would prefer it if yourhypothesis, problem, and procedure draft are typed. If you do the entire printing, and work onthe computer, at the end, you will just need to copy from Word to PowerPoint.PROPOSAL IS DUE ON Thur/Fri, October 4/5!You have about 10 days, so get busy!SUGGESTED FORMATProblem/Question: ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Research: (list 3 sites/books/articles and a write a paragraph about what they said about yourproject) ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Hypothesis:___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Variable Identification:Independent Variable: _____________________________________________________Dependent Variable: ______________________________________________________Controlled Variables/Constants: ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Control Group: (describe what it will look like if your experiment requires one).________________________________________________________________________
