Calculation5. All vaccinations—child was given BCG, three doses of DPT, three doses of polio (excluding.the dose given shortly after birth), and measles.6. No vaccinations—none of the specified vaccinations was given.A. Numerators1. Number of living children between 12 and 23 months of age at the time of the survey whoreceived the specified vaccine. Where the information is present on a vaccination card shownto the interviewer, the record of the vaccination is used. Where no card was shown to theinterview or there was no record of the vaccination, the mother’s report of the vaccination isused. For DPT, where not asked of the mother, if the mother reported a polio vaccinationgiven not shortly after birth, then the equivalent dose of DPT is assumed. Care needs to betaken not to confuse the polio vaccine dose given at birth (called polio 0) from the dosesgiven later (polio 1, polio 2, and polio 3).2. Number of living children between 12 and 23 months of age who received the specifiedvaccine by 12 months of age. Where the information is present on a vaccination card shownto the interviewer, the date of the vaccination is used. The difference between the date of thevaccination and the birth date of the child is used to determine whether the vaccination wasgiven between age 0 and 11 months. Where no card is shown to the interview, there is norecord of the vaccination, or there is no date of vaccination on the card, the mother’s report ofthe vaccination is used. For DPT, where not asked of the mother, if the mother reported apolio vaccination different from that given shortly after birth, then the equivalent dose ofDPT is assumed. Care needs to be taken not to confuse the polio vaccine dose given at birth(called polio 0) from the doses given later (polio 1, polio 2, and polio 3). It is assumed thatthe proportion of vaccinations reported by the mother has the same distribution by age as thatindicated by the vaccination card. Therefore, the number of children with the specificvaccination dose from mother’s report is multiplied by the proportion of that dose givenbefore 12 months of age as determined by information taken from the vaccination card.B.
