Bin SwitchQM45/Q130/Q170/Q210/Q270FunctionBin switch operation is controlled by the movement ofthe ice damper. The bin switch has two main functions:1. Terminating the harvest cycle and returning theice machine to the freeze cycle.This occurs when the bin switch is opened andclosed again within 7 seconds of opening duringthe harvest cycle.2. Automatic ice machine shut-off.If the storage bin is full at the end of a harvestcycle, the sheet of cubes fails to clear the icedamper and holds it down. After the ice damper isheld down for 7 seconds, the ice machine shutsoff.The ice machine remains off until enough ice isremoved from the storage bin to allow the sheet ofcubes to drop clear of the ice damper. As the icedamper swings back to the operating position, thebin switch closes and the ice machine restarts.ImportantThe ice damper must be up (bin switch closed) tostart ice making.Check Procedure1. Set the toggle switch to OFF.2. Watch the bin switch light on the control board.3. Move the ice damper upward, toward theevaporator. The bin switch must close. The binswitch light “on” indicates the bin switch hasclosed properly.4. Move the ice damper away from the evaporator.The bin switch must open. Ohm Test1. Disconnect the bin switch wires to isolate the binswitch from the control board.2. Connect an ohmmeter to the disconnected binswitch wires.3. Cycle the bin switch open and closed numeroustimes by opening and closing the water curtain.NOTE: To prevent misdiagnosis:• Always use the water curtain magnet to cycle theswitch (a larger or smaller magnet will affect switchoperation).• Watch for consistent readings when the bin switchis cycled open and closed (bin switch failure couldbe erratic).Part Number 80-01111-9 7/10 161
