FLOODING EXPANSION VALVEA flooding expansion valve will have discharge andsuction line temperatures 20°F (-7°C) lower thannormal freeze cycle temperatures. Normal suction linetemperature and low discharge line temperature DONOT verify a flooding valve. Both discharge linetemperature and suction line temperature must be lowto verify a flooding expansion valve. Ice fill pattern isthin on the left hand side of the evaporator.STARVING EXPANSION VALVE/LOWREFRIGERANT CHARGEImportantConfirm water float valve is set correctly . Anoverflowing st andpipe mimics these symptomsexactly.SYMPTOMS:• Ice Fill Pattern• Thin on top two rows of the evaporator• Thin on entire left side of the evaporator• Thick on the bottom of the evaporator• Freeze time longer than normalDiagnosis can be confirmed by adding 2 oz (56.7 g) ofrefrigerant: if the Suction line temperature drops or theice fill pattern on the top two rows fills in, the icemachine is low on refrigerant. Refer to chargingprocedures for access valve installation procedure.OVERCHARGED SYSTEMSuction line temperature will be slightly low duringfreeze cycle 5°F (-15°C).
