Operating Your <strong>Breville</strong> toast & meltBe<strong>for</strong>e first useRemove any promotional materials andpackaging materials be<strong>for</strong>e use. Check that<strong>the</strong> cooking plates are clean and free of dust.If necessary, wipe over with a damp cloth.When using <strong>the</strong> sandwich press <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> firsttime you may notice a fine smoke haze.This is caused by <strong>the</strong> heating of some of <strong>the</strong>components. There is no need <strong>for</strong> concern.Toasted sandwiches1. Insert <strong>the</strong> power plug into a 230V or240V power outlet and <strong>the</strong>n turn <strong>the</strong>power ON. The red ‘POWER’ lightwill illuminate.2. Allow <strong>the</strong> sandwich press to pre-heatwith <strong>the</strong> top cooking plate in <strong>the</strong> closedposition until <strong>the</strong> green ‘READY’light illuminates.3. During <strong>this</strong> time, prepare <strong>the</strong> sandwich.When <strong>the</strong> sandwich press has preheated,place <strong>the</strong> sandwich onto <strong>the</strong>bottom cooking plate. Always placesandwiches towards <strong>the</strong> rear of <strong>the</strong>bottom cooking plate.4. Close <strong>the</strong> top cooking plate. The topcooking plate has a floating hinge thatis designed to evenly press down on <strong>the</strong>sandwich (see Fig 1).5. Toasting should take approximately 5-8minutes. Exact toasting time will be amatter of taste. It will also depend on <strong>the</strong>type of bread and type of filling used.6. When <strong>the</strong> sandwich is cooked, use <strong>the</strong>handle to open <strong>the</strong> sandwich press andraise <strong>the</strong> top cooking plate. Removesandwich with <strong>the</strong> help of a plastic orwooden spatula. Never use metal tongsor a knife as <strong>the</strong>se can cause damage to<strong>the</strong> non-stick coating.NOTEAlways allow <strong>the</strong> sandwich press topre-heat until <strong>the</strong> green ‘READY’light illuminates.NOTEThe safety locking storage clip shouldnot be used to clamp down <strong>the</strong> topcooking plate when <strong>the</strong> sandwichesare in <strong>the</strong> sandwich press. The weightof <strong>the</strong> top cooking plate will graduallypress down <strong>the</strong> sandwich during <strong>the</strong>cooking process.NOTEWhen using <strong>the</strong> sandwich press <strong>for</strong><strong>the</strong> first time you may notice a finesmoke haze. Operating Your <strong>Breville</strong> toast & meltYour sandwich press features an AdjustableHeight Control feature which allows youto fix <strong>the</strong> top plate to a range of positionsabove <strong>the</strong> bottom plate. This allows yoursandwich press to be used as an opentoaster ideal <strong>for</strong> toasting open sandwichmelts. It can also be used <strong>for</strong> toastingsandwiches where you don’t need to apply<strong>the</strong> weight of <strong>the</strong> top plate.Adjustable Height ControlToasts or melts any breadthickness in minutes.Open sandwich melts1. Allow <strong>the</strong> sandwich press to pre-heatuntil <strong>the</strong> green ‘READY’ light illuminates.2. Place sandwich to be melted onbottom plate.3. Move <strong>the</strong> Adjustable Height Control clipon <strong>the</strong> right hand side of <strong>the</strong> sandwichpress to <strong>the</strong> desired height (see Fig 2).4. Slowly lower <strong>the</strong> top plate until it restson <strong>the</strong> Adjustable Height Control clip.5. The top plate will radiate <strong>the</strong> desiredheat to melt ingredients such as cheese.6. Toasting melts should takeapproximately 3-4 minutes. Howeverexact toasting time will be a matter oftaste. HINTS FOR BEST RESULTSBreadMost types of bread can be used; white,wholemeal, kibbled wheat, wholegrain,raisin loaf and so on. The sandwich pressis ideal <strong>for</strong> toasting foccacia, Turkish bread,baguettes as well as bread rolls. Raisinbread, brioche or o<strong>the</strong>r sweet breads whichcontain a high sugar content will tend tobrown quicker.FillingsTry to use canned or pre-cooked fruit asfresh fruit may give off excessive juiceswhen heated. Be careful when biting intosandwiches containing fillings such ascheese and tomato or jam as <strong>the</strong>y retain heatand can burn if eaten too quickly.Toasting BreadThe unique flat plate design makes <strong>the</strong>sandwich press ideal <strong>for</strong> toasting plainbreads, and Turkish bread, without anyfillings or spreads. Try toasting TurkishBread with jams <strong>for</strong> a great alternative tostandard breads at breakfast.Fat Free SnacksDue to <strong>the</strong> non-stick flat plate design, it isnot necessary to use any butter or margarineon <strong>the</strong> outside of your toasted snacks.13

care, cleaning & storageBe<strong>for</strong>e cleaning, switch <strong>the</strong> power off at <strong>the</strong>power outlet and <strong>the</strong>n remove <strong>the</strong> powerplug. Allow your sandwich press to coolbe<strong>for</strong>e cleaning. The appliance is easier toclean when slightly warm.Always clean your sandwich press after eachuse to prevent a build up of baked-on foods.Wipe cooking plates with a soft cloth. Ifcooked on food is not removed by <strong>this</strong>method reheat <strong>the</strong> unit <strong>for</strong> 1-2 minutes, <strong>the</strong>nbrush with a little oil or melted butter. Allowto stand <strong>for</strong> five minutes <strong>the</strong>n wipe with adamp cloth.NOTEThe cooking plates are coated with anon-stick surface, do not use abrasives.Fig. 44.
