Octa-Soligen® CalciumDescriptionCalcium is an auxiliary drier that is used solely in combination with primary and secondary driers.Supply FormOcta-Soligen ® driers are based on metal salts of synthetic carboxylic acids. We supply calcium driers as aneutral or overbased version with different metal contents and solvents that meet the specific requirementsof various applications:ProductOcta-Soligen® Calcium 10, basicOcta-Soligen® Calcium 4, basicOcta-Soligen® Calcium 5 HS, neutralOcta-Soligen® Calcium 5, basicOcta-Soligen® Calcium 5, neutralOcta-Soligen® Calcium 7 HS, neutralApplicationssolventborne systemssolventborne systemsVOC-reduced and High-Solid coatingssolventborne systemssolventborne systemsVOC-reduced and High-Solid coatingsPropertiesCalcium itself has no drying effect on binders that dry by oxidation. However, it yields synergistic effects incombination with primary driers such as cobalt and manganese and with secondary driers such as zirconium. When added during grinding, it prevents adsorption of the primary driers at the surface of the pigments, thusstabilizing the drying power. Calcium also promotes pigment wetting and the neutral supply forms improvefilm gloss.ApplicationsOcta-Soligen ® Calcium is used in solventborne systems based on alkyds and epoxy esters that dry byoxidation.DosageIn our experience, the percentage addition of calcium, calculated on the metal content relative to solidbinder, is approx. 0.03 - 0.30 %. The exact amount required depends on the binder used and should alwaysbe determined in preliminary trials.Page 1 of 2

Octa-Soligen® CalciumIt is recommended to add all or part of Octa-Soligen ® Calcium during the grinding step to improve pigmentwetting. It can also be incorporated at the end of the process at the same time than other driers.StorageProtect from the effects of weathering and store at temperatures between 5 and 30 °C.
