Campers also enjoy an overnight retreat to <strong>YMCA</strong> Cedar Glen, where they can put their trust and communication skillsto the test on both high and low rope challenge courses and the rock climbing wall. Campers receive a report card detailingskills mastered, areas to practice, personal achievements and a certificate <strong>of</strong> completion. Youth spend four to five hours daily on lifesaving certification skills and the remainder <strong>of</strong>the day participating in camp activities. During an overnight retreat to <strong>YMCA</strong> Cedar Glen, they can put their trust andcommunication skills to the test on both high and low rope challenge courses and the rock climbing wall. They also have theopportunity to volunteer at a <strong>YMCA</strong> Day Camp based on successful completion <strong>of</strong> the program and an interview. Communityservice hours for school may also be earned through this program.Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid: Week 3 & 4 (18-20 hr.): Teaches an understanding <strong>of</strong> the lifesaving principlesembodied in the four components <strong>of</strong> water-rescue education: judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn towsand carries, and defense methods and releases in preparation for challenging rescues <strong>of</strong> increased risk involving consciousand unconscious victims <strong>of</strong> various types. Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a 500-metre timed swim.Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid: Week 7 & 8 (18-20 hr.): Designed for lifesavers who want the challenge <strong>of</strong> more advancedtraining including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for all advanced trainingprograms including National Lifeguard and Instructor certification. Includes a timed 600-metre swim. In addition to havingfun with many traditional camp activities, JLITs will also have the chance to develop technical skills in a core area <strong>of</strong> camp(adventure, outdoor living skills or environmental learning). JLITs will also participate in a three day, two night <strong>of</strong>f-sitecanoeing trip and live in our newly renovated cabins while on site.Leader in Training 2 weeks Fee: $1,395The Leader in Training (LIT) program gives participants the chance to further develop their leadership potential andbegin to explore topics such as group development and dynamics, leadership theories, creative program planning and childguidance. Applying knowledge from their workshop sessions, during their second week LITs will work together to plan andimplement a camp-wide theme day for our day camp participants. LITs will also participate in a four day, three night <strong>of</strong>f-sitecanoeing trip and live in our newly renovated cabins while on site.Counsellor in Training 3 weeks Fee: $1,595The Counsellor in Training (CIT) program helps prepare leadership participants to become camp staff in the future. Inaddition to workshop sessions focused around camp leadership and participation in many traditional camp programs, CITswill take part in a five day, four night <strong>of</strong>f-site canoe trip, and earn their Standard First Aid Certification. During the third week<strong>of</strong> their program, CITs will be partnered with a group <strong>of</strong> day campers to put their new skills in practice. After CITs havecompleted their three weeks at <strong>YMCA</strong> Cedar Glen they are eligible for a one week volunteer placement at one <strong>of</strong> the<strong>YMCA</strong>’s 25 day camps located across the GTA.
