First, inspiteof all the corruption, relatively speaking, and making a generalstatement,the British colonies were much better administered than most of theothercolonial empires. Second, British royalty had written in<strong>to</strong> the chartersof thevarious colonies that they grant their inhabitants "liberty ofconscience."In fact, the various colonies when they became states continued thisheritage.It is a little known fact that the original 13 states had state Constitutions,which spelled out the right of "liberty of conscience" better than theConstitution, Bill of Rights, or Declaration of Independence.James Madison worked hard <strong>to</strong> get specific wording in the Constitutionconcerning "liberty of conscience", but his work and arguments were invain. Awatered down version was adopted. One of the reasons he facedopposition wasthat the delegates were concerned that people would becomeconscientiousobjec<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>to</strong> war! They knew that most people want <strong>to</strong> live peaceably,and giventhe opportunity are not going <strong>to</strong> fight <strong>for</strong> the politicians! So theseframersof the Constitution would not grant Almighty God His rightful powerover men'sconsciences and His place in the hearts of men. They removed the words"liberty of conscience" from the text.It is obvious that there is only a shallow <strong>for</strong>m of civil liberty when fullliberty of conscience is not granted. From its inception, the Federalgovernment has grown stronger and more despotic with each passingyear.Despots don't display themselves as devils, but disguise themselves asdesirable, dauntless, dazzling, divinely inspired, democratic delegatesof thecommon man.
