Warning Lights2Check engine - YELLOW (petrol models only)This warning light is used to indicate faults detectedby the engine management system. The ‘Checkengine’ indicator illuminates as a system check when thestarter switch is turned to the second position and shouldextinguish when the engine is started.If an engine operation or emissions problem occurs while thecar is being driven, the ‘Check engine’ indicator willilluminate.If ‘Check engine’ illuminates, and the car drives normally:Contact your local dealer to arrange a service appointment atyour earliest convenience - YOU MAY STILL DRIVE THECAR.If ‘Check engine’ flashes and/or the car does not drivenormally: Avoid high speeds and seek immediate assistancefrom your dealer.Handbrake & brake system - REDThis warning light will illuminate forapproximately 3 seconds as a bulb check wheneverthe starter switch is turned to the second position. Subsequentillumination may indicate a fault with the braking system suchas brake system fluid loss, handbrake on or electronic brakeforce distribution failure.For handbrake operation, the light illuminates when thehandbrake is applied and extinguishes when it is fully released.If the warning light remains illuminated five seconds after thehandbrake has been released, a fault with the braking systemis indicated - check the brake fluid level (see ‘Maintenance’). Ifthe light continues to illuminate, stop the car as soon as safetypermits and seek qualified assistance urgently.Battery charging - REDThe light illuminates as a bulb check when thestarter switch is turned to the second position andextinguishes as soon as the engine is running. If the lightremains on, or illuminates when driving, a fault with thebattery charging system is indicated. Seek qualified assistanceurgently.81
