Wheel ChangingChanging the wheel1. Before raising the car, use the wheel wrench to slackeneach of the wheel bolts half a turn anti-clockwise (referto the pages that follow for information about lockingwheel bolts).2. Attach the jack handle and turn the jack screw clockwiseto raise the car until the tyre is clear of the ground.3. Remove the wheel bolts and place in the five holes in thetool tray to prevent them from being lost.4. Remove the road wheel.5. Fit the spare wheel and tighten the wheel bolts until thewheel is seated firmly against the hub.6. Lower the car and remove the jack, then FULLY tightenthe wheel bolts in a diagonal sequence.7. Refit the wheel trim (steel road wheels only), ensuringthat the valve stem is located between the valve stemguides (plastic lugs arrowed in wheel trim removalillustration). Working around the circumference of thewheel, use firm pressure with the flat of the hand to pressthe wheel trim into position.8. Finally, return the tools to the tool tray and the wheel(face down) to the well in the boot floor.The following precautions must be observed when thespace saver spare wheel is in use:• The space saver spare wheel is for temporary use only. Itmust be replaced by the normal sized wheel as soon aspossible.• Only one space saver wheel is to be used on the car at anyone time.• A maximum speed of 50 mph (80 km/h) must beobserved.• The inflation pressure of the space saver tyre must bemaintained at 60 lbf/in 2 (4.2 bar).• The use of snow chains is NOT permitted on the spacesaver spare wheel.• DRIVE CAUTIOUSLY; the space saver tyre is smaller insize and higher in pressure than a regular tyre. It will causea harsher ride and may have less traction on some roadsurfaces.Avoid accidental contactwith any underbody parts,especially hot exhaust system<strong>com</strong>ponents.Care point: Avoid placing wheels(and wheel trims) face down onthe ground - the surface may bescratched.NOTE: The wheel trim must notbe fitted to the space saver sparewheel.Always check the tyrepressure after changing awheel, and have the tightness ofthe wheel bolts checked by adealer as soon as possible!166
