Cooling SystemCooling SystemCOOLANT CHECK & TOP-UPThe coolant level should be checked weekly when thecooling system is cold and with the car resting on levelground.Remove the filler cap to check the level of the coolant. Thelevel marking can only be viewed through the filler neck (seeillustration). If it is necessary to remove the filler cap before the system hasfully cooled, loosen the cap slowly, allowing the air pressureto escape gradually before removing the cap completely.3DO NOT remove thereservoir cap when thecooling system is hot - escapingsteam or water could causeserious injury.Care point: DO NOT add rustinhibitors or other additives tothe coolant - these may not becompatible with the coolant orengine components.H2687If the level is below the ‘MAX’ mark, top-up with a 50% mixof water and ethylene glycol based anti-freeze (containing nomethanol) with Organic Acid Technology (OAT) corrosioninhibitors (see ‘Anti-freeze’).If the coolant level falls appreciably during a short period, suspect leakage or overheating and arrange for your dealer toexamine the car.Ensure the cap is tightened fully after top-up is completed.Care point: When topping-up,avoid spillage on body panels -anti-freeze will damage paintedsurfaces.Care point: Take care not to spillantifreeze onto a hot engine - afire may result.145
