Traction ControlTraction ControlELECTRONIC TRACTION CONTROL*The purpose of electronic traction control is to aid traction, thereby helping the driver to maintain control of the car insituations where one or both of the driving wheels arespinning (for example, if one wheel is on ice and the other ontarmac). The traction control system monitors the driving speed ofeach wheel individually. If spin is detected on one wheel, thesystem automatically brakes that wheel, transferring torque tothe opposite, non-spinning, wheel. If both wheels arespinning, the system will reduce engine speed in order toregulate wheel rotation until traction is regained.NOTE: The individual wheelbraking feature of the tractioncontrol system will not operate atroad speeds above 62 mph (100km/h). The engine torquereduction feature continues tofunction up to the car’s maximumspeed.Manual overrideOperating tip: When driving withsnow chains fitted, it isrecommended that tractioncontrol be disabled.H2786aTraction control is entirely automatic in operation. However, the system can be manually overridden by pressing thetraction control disable switch (see illustration). The systemwill then remain disabled until the switch is pressed a secondtime, or until the starter switch is turned off.130
