Brakesremains illuminated for more than three seconds after thestarter switch is turned on, there is a fault with the brakingsystem, and EBD may not be available. If this occurs, stop thecar as soon as safety permits and seek qualified assistanceimmediately. DO NOT drive the car with the brake systemwarning light illuminated.Brake padsBrake pads require a period of bedding in. For the first 500miles (800 km), you should avoid situations where heavybraking is required.Remember that regular servicing is vital to ensure that all thebrake <strong>com</strong>ponents are examined for wear at the correctintervals, and changed when required to ensure long termsafety and optimum performance.Brake pad wear indicatorThe road wheels are fitted with brake pad wear sensors. Whena brake pad wears to a predetermined point, the sensoractivates the instrument panel warning light/display. Thewarning will remain active until the worn brake pad isreplaced.Brake system warning lightThe warning light on the instrument panel shouldilluminate for about 3 seconds as a bulb checkwhenever the starter switch is turned to the second position,and also illuminate whenever the handbrake is applied(provided the starter is switched to the second position).If the warning light illuminates while driving, or fails toextinguish when the handbrake is fully released, a fault withthe braking system is indicated. This may be caused by a leakin the hydraulic system or low fluid level in the reservoir orfailure of the electronic brake force distribution system. DONOT continue driving - stop the car as soon as safety permitsand seek qualified assistance.If the brake warning lightilluminates while driving,bring the car to a halt as soon astraffic conditions and safetypermit and seek qualifiedassistance before continuing.126
