SURFACE TREATMENT AND COATINGThe High Speed Steels we use grant a good wear resistance and toughness. Therefore we normally deliver ourtaps with bright, untreated surface. In machining certain materials, various surface treatments are of advantage.STEAM TEMPERED - vapThe Steam Tempered is a Fe 3 O 4 -oxyd-coating which reduces the friction between tooland workpiece and prevents cold welding.NITRIDING - NIWe recommend this surface treatment for machining materials which effect a hard wear/ abrasion, such as grey cast iron, alu-alloys with high Si-percentage more than 10%.These are surface finishes of good value and suitable for many application. We do these surface treatments withinour own company.Further surface finishes are the various coatings.TiN-COATING - TiNThe TiN-coating has a hardness of approx. 2,300 HV and is temperature-resistant upto approx. 600℃. This is an excellent all-round coating for normal applications.Colour : Golden Coefficient of friction against steel : 0.4TiCN-COATING - TiCNTiCN takes place of TiN when the conditions require the coating to have a differenthardness and toughness.The TiCN brings advantage in machining very difficult steels or cutting interrupted bores.The TiCN-coating has a hardness of approx. 3,000 HV, but is temperature-resistant up toapprox. 400℃ only. That means TiCN needs an excellent cooling for long service life.Colour : Blue-Grey Coefficient of friction against steel : 0.4TiAIN-COATING - TiAINThis is a special coating for machining abrasive materials such as : grey cast iron, alualloyswith silicon, fiber reinforced plastics, etc., or machining under high temperatures,which means with insufficient cooling, or high speeds ≥ 600m/min. The TiAIN has ahardness of approx. 3,000 HV and is temperature resistant up to approx. 800℃.Colour : Violet-Grey Coefficient of friction against steel : 0.4Hardslick-COATING - HardslickHardslick combines in a novel way the advantages of an extremely hard, thermallystable TiAIN-coating with the sliding and lubricating properties of an outerWC/C(Tungsten carbide/carbon)-coating.
