SpectAl ® 100U NTREATED F UMED A LUMINASpectrAl fumed aluminas are used in threecomponents of fluorescent lamps:• In the barrier layer, a coating on glass tube,fumed alumina prevents migration of sodiuminto the phosphor during production of lamp andprevents migration of mercury into the glasstube during usage. By preventing migration ofmercury into the glass which causes graying andreduces efficiency, fumed alumina increasesservice life of fluorescent lamps.• The reflector layer functions to reflect backinto the phosphor any UV light not initiallycaptured thereby maximizing the effectivenessof the phosphor.
