After all, the reduction ofvehicle weight alongside heavy-duty construction is one ofthe key objectives in the automotive industry. As a recognisedpartner in the automotive industry, OTTO FUCHS has taken upan ever greater number of development tasks and producestechnically, economically and ecologically optimised componentsusing advanced manufacturing technologies.For example, we produce extruded aluminium structuralprofiles for the automotive industry from special crash alloyswhich, in an accident, ensure regular as well as crack-free deformationand in so doing, absorb the impact energy. This typeof uniform and well-defined absorption ensures significantlyimproved crash protection for the occupant and is the result ofmany years of experience, a unique knowledge of materialsand tireless research.In addition to car body structures, profiles and componentsmade of aluminium and copper alloys are built into a vehicle‘shydraulic system, its steering and drivetrain. As such, we pressprofiles, for example, for ABS and steering housing in largeserial quantities and continue to process them in a customisedway until they are pre-finished components. Because of theirexcellent friction and wear properties, profiles made from copperalloys form the basis of a variety of bearings and bushingsin the field of drives.24 OTTO FUCHS
