Hand tools are great for gettingexercise and removing easternredcedar in small areas.Hydraulic clippers workwell on all but very smalleastern redcedar. They area good follow-up <strong>treatment</strong>to a prescribed fire.Chainsaws perform well on all sizesof eastern redcedar, and like handtools, they are great for getting exerciseand clearing eastern redcedar off smallacreages.Ground anchorchains makequick work oflarge easternredcedar, but arevery expensive.Elevated anchor chains (ball and chain) are the mosteffective and economical method for eradicatinglarge eastern redcedar.Bulldozers take out any size eastern redcedar,but it is the most expensive tool to useand causes severe soil disturbance, as well asdamageto nativegrasses.Hydraulic saws workwell and are very faston medium- to largesizetrees. They do agood job following aprescribed fire.

If prescribed fire is periodicallyused, eastern redcedar and <strong>other</strong> woody plantsare easily managed.
