The structure consists <strong>of</strong> 3 wood latticeworksides with an entrance at the roadside frontage. There is an opening at the back <strong>of</strong> the structure measuringapproximately 3 square metres allowing for a lake view. The ro<strong>of</strong> is made <strong>of</strong> wood with the original cupola and smallspiral still intact. The Mineral Spring was located to thewest <strong>of</strong> the gazebo along the shoreline, and people would collect mineral spring water from a large wooden barrel sunkinto the sand. People would drink the water from the spring to rid themselves <strong>of</strong> parasites and it was deemed beneficialfor the people lodging in the nearby Sanatorium. In the mid to late 1800s, “Springwood” was the name <strong>of</strong> the parsonage<strong>of</strong> Rev. William Ritchie, the 2nd reverend <strong>of</strong> St. George’s Anglican Church, and in the 1900’s the name “Springwood” wasgiven to a resort area <strong>of</strong>fering tourist cabins. The gazebo and its associated mineral spring were important landmarks forpeople vacationing in Jackson’s Point.Contextual ValueThe Courting House is the last <strong>of</strong> this type <strong>of</strong> structure to remain in its original location.
