Thus, the Christianfundamentalist who merely seeks to take God’s Wordseriously and to live it and to preach it faithfully before hisHeavenly Master is said to be as dangerous to this world as aMuslim terrorist or a radical atheist.Warren said that Christian fundamentalism is motivated byfear. One of the many problems with this statement is that theBible often speaks of fear in a positive manner. Paul wasafraid that the devil would deceive the believers. He said:“But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiledEve through his subtilty, so your minds should becorrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if hethat cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have notpreached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye havenot received, or another gospel, which ye have notaccepted, ye might well bear with him” (2 Cor. 11:3-4).We should follow the apostle’s example and fear spiritualdeception, both for ourselves and for others.The Bible says pastors who sin should be rebuked beforeall “that others also may fear” (1 Tim. 5:20). Would thatSaddleback Church would take that verse seriously andrebuke their heresy-preaching pastor publicly!34
