ΠαιδείαEducationΤα τελευταία δεκαπέντε χρόνια, το Ίδρυμα έχει παραμείνεισταθερό στη δέσμευσή του να υποστηρίζει ένα ευρύ φάσμαεκπαιδευτικών πρωτοβουλιών και προγραμμάτων, σε αναγνώρισηόχι μόνο της σημασίας της παιδείας, αλλά και τηςπολυπλοκότητας των εκπαιδευτικών θεμάτων και των μεγάλωνπροκλήσεων που αυτά εμπεριέχουν. Υπάρχουν, βέβαια, πολλέςδιαφορετικές προσεγγίσεις όσον αφορά τον τρόπο αντιμετώπισηςπολλών από τα κρίσιμα προβλήματα που σχετίζονται με τηνπαιδεία. Παρότι οι προγραμματικές προσεγγίσεις του Ιδρύματοςαπέναντι στην παιδεία ποικίλουν, χαρακτηρίζονται από μία κοινήκαι θεμελιώδη παράμετρο: τη στήριξη εκπαιδευτικών πρωτοβουλιώνπου επηρεάζουν ένα όσο το δυνατόν πιο ευρύκαι ποικιλόμορφο κοινό.Οι δωρεές που εγκρίθηκαν την Άνοιξη του 2011 επιδεικνύουντη συνεχιζόμενη δέσμευση του Ιδρύματος απέναντι στηστήριξη πρωτοβουλιών που εστιάζουν σε ένα ευρύτατο φάσμαθεμάτων: προαγωγή της γνώσης και της ποιοτικής παιδείας,ίσες εκπαιδευτικές ευκαιρίες, πρόσβαση σε εκπαίδευση γιαπαιδιά με μαθησιακές δυσκολίες, πρόσβαση σε εκπαίδευσημε βάση την τεχνολογία, στήριξη ακαδημαϊκών προγραμμάτωνσε ιδρύματα ανώτερης εκπαίδευσης, στήριξη δημόσιωνβιβλιοθηκών, αναβάθμιση υποδομών και γενική οικονομικήενίσχυση εκπαιδευτικών οργανισμών, προσφορά υποτροφιώνσε μη προνομιούχους φοιτητές και στήριξη εκπαιδευτικώνπρωτοβουλιών που λαμβάνουν χώρα σε δημόσια πάρκα,ενισχύοντας τον ρόλο τους ως σημαντικών αστικών χώρων.Over the last fifteen years, the Foundation has consistentlysupported a wide range of educational initiatives and programs,recognizing not only the importance of education, but also thecomplexity of educational issues and the daunting challengesthat exist in attempting to address some of them. There exist,of course, numerous different approaches on how to addressa number of the critical issues that relate to education. Whilethe Foundation’s programmatic approach towards educationis varied, it is nonetheless defined by one common andfundamental parameter: the need to support educationalinitiatives that reach and impact as much of a wide anddiverse audience as possible.The grants approved in the Spring of 2011 demonstratethe Foundation’s continuing commitment towards supportinginitiatives that focus on a broad variety of issues: promotionof knowledge and of high quality education, equal educationalopportunities for the public, access to education for studentswith learning disabilities, access to technology and computerbased education, support of cutting edge research, supportof academic conferences, support of academic programs ininstitutes of higher learning, support of public libraries, supportof infrastructure and capital initiatives that allow educationalinstitutions to improve their services, offering of scholarships tounderprivileged students, and support of educational initiativesin public parks that strengthen their role as critical civic spaces.The IDEAL School of Manhattan13
