BFAR Regional Office 02Mangrove tree planting activity in Buguey, Cagayan.courtesy call at the local government units, mangroveplanting, municipal fisherfolk registration, stationand project visits, attendance to project launchingsand festivals, and communicate with the media.In line with municipal fisherfolk registration whichis mandated under Sec. 19 of RA 8550, the bureaudistributed 1,100 pieces registry forms during theconduct of the activity in the towns of Sta. Teresitaand Sanchez Mira, Cagayan.FRDs are mandated to function as BFARRegional Director for the whole month of May sansaction on personnel, financial and policy-determiningmatters. At the same time, BFAR Regional Directorsalso engage in immersion activity to have a feel onthe situation and issues at the grassroots level.Puno Ko Sagip-Buhay MoIn time with the Farmers and FisherfolkMonth and the Fish Conservation Week in October,is the conduct of reforestation activity dubbed “PunoKo Sagip-Buhay Mo.” This nationwide activity, on itsthird year, as of 2009 is the Bureau’s contribution tomitigate global warming and climate change.For the year in review, the agency was ableto plant 850 mangrove propagules in Brgys. TaggatSur and Pata East, Claveria in Cagayan and 200 foresttree seedlings (Mahogany and G. Melina) and 100fruit tree seedlings (lychee and longgan) inthe watershed of Baretbet, Bagabag, NuevaVizcaya.project at the countryside under the Office of thePresident.For the year in review, BFAR RO2 joined thelaunching of KALAHI project in Villa Ilanan and VillaGarcia, in the municipality of Maddela, Quirino andprovided 3,000 pieces of carp fingerlings.Fingerlings and technical assistance for fishgrowers in other KALAHI areas were also provided,as follows:CagayanBrgys. ANNUAL REPORT 2009Agribusiness and MarketingApart from the dissemination of technologiesas undertaken thru extension activities, the bureaualso ensures the profitability of fishery entrepreneurs,thru agribusiness and marketing assistance. Alongthis line, the bureau conducted weekly pricemonitoring of fishery products in Tuguegarao City,Santiago City, Camalaniugan and Aparri wet marketand provided the report to concerned agencies, heldlocal market matching activities and assisted fishgrowers in Isabela (12), Cagayan (4), Nueva Vizcaya(3), Quirino (3), and 2 fishery-based cooperatives inmarketing their produce.On agribusiness, the bureau has assisted theRIC of Buguey, Sta. Praxedes Fisherfolk Association,CAVAFIF, Casitan and San Jose Fisherfolk Association,Sta. Teresita Fisherfolk Association in the preparationof feasibility study (inputs on technical aspects)as requirement for their application of loan fromfinancing institutions.The bureau has also participated in agri-aquafairs and exhibits, as follows:o Balatong Festival= San Mateo Isabelao Pattaradday Festival = Santiago Cityo Isabela Day= Ilagan, Isabelao Nueva Vizcaya Day = Bayombong, N. The activityusually utilizes BFAR MCS patrol vessels as transportmeans, and thus, coincides with the patrol missionsof the agency.The techno-caravan for 2009 was heldon April 24 to 30 in the towns of Maconacon andDivilacan in Isabela, Calayan, Cagayan and the islandbarangay of Camiguin, Calayan.Highlights of the activity include:o Aquaculture trainings (seaweeds, tilapia andbangus culture)o Post-harvest technology trainingso Trainings on the construction and fabricationof fishing gears and payaoo Award of 2 marine fish cages and 2 payaos(Maconacon and Divilacan)o Distributed 1,800 flyers (aquaculture andfish processing technologies)o Dispersal of 65,000 pieces tilapia fingerlings9
