Medals & DecorationPolice Medal for Meritorious Service1.This Medal is awarded every year on the occasion ofIndependence and Republic Day in recognition of the meritoriousrecord in Police service or in the Central Police/ SecurityOrganization. All Police personnel in the country with at least 15years of service are eligible for this award. The recipients of theaward are presented Medals in Ceremonies arranged by the StateGovernment/ Central Police Organization concerned.President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service2Every year about 125 Medals are awarded on the occasion ofIndependence and Republic Day in recognition of a specialdistinguished record in Police service or in the CentralPolice/ Security Organization. All police personnel in the countrywith at least 21 years of service are eligible for this award.Police Medal for Gallantry3This Medal is awarded for conspicuous gallantry. All policepersonnel of the country irrespective of rank and length ofservice are eligible for this award. The Recipients of this Medalare granted an Allowance per month which is paid to them evenafter retirement. After the death of the recipient, this Allowanceis paid to his widow at the same rate. The recipients of thisMedal are also eligible to travel free by train in the 2 nd class AC IItier or in the first class with an attendant.President’s Police Medal for Gallantry4.This Medal is awarded for conspicuous gallantry in saving lifeand property, or in preventing crime or arresting criminals. Allpolice personnel of the country irrespective of rank and length ofservice are eligible for this award. The Recipients of this Medalare granted an allowance per month which is paid to them rateeven after retirement. After the death of the recipient, thisAllowance is paid to his widow at the same rate. The recipients ofthis award are also eligible to travel free by train in the 2 nd ClassAC II tier or in the first class with an attendant.
