WORKING AT HEIGHTREGULATIONS 2005WHAT ARE THE REGULATIONS?The regulations provide a simple hierarchy to manage and select appropriateequipment that is most suitable for working at height.We have a range of productsavailable to help you complywith the Working at Heightregulations.See Low Level Access on pages 33 - 36and Powered Access on pages 37 - 48.PUT SAFETY FIRSTHOW DO THEY AFFECT ME AND MY BUSINESS?Standards for work above two metres will not change, they are simply beingextended to work at ANY height. It is your responsibility to ensure that:1. At initial stages before work commences ALL work at height is thoroughly planned and wellorganised.2. Ensure that all employees/contractors involved are competent.3. A full risk <strong>as</strong>sessment is completed on the job in hand, the work environment and surfaces.This is then used to select the most appropriate equipment(our staff can provide guidance on all equipment).4. Ensure all equipment for working at height is properly used, maintained and inspected.STEP 1: AVOIDConsider the use of other tools available, such <strong>as</strong>extendable tools or lifting equipment, beforeworking at height.STEP 2: PREVENTIf you have decided that it is absolutelynecessary to work at height, do EVERYTHING youcan to prevent a fall.✓ Consider the risks before you start✓ Assess the environment/working conditionsyou are working in✓ Select the most appropriate/suitableequipmentSafety harnesses and a full range of PersonalProtective Equipment are available to buy.STEP 3: MINIMISEMinimise the consequences of a fall by using theappropriate safety equipment or other me<strong>as</strong>ures.WHO DO THE REGULATIONSAPPLY TO?ANYONE, ANYWHERE, AT ANY HEIGHT -AT ALL TIMES✓ Employees✓ Self Employed✓ SubcontractorsWARNINGEven when no injuries result, theWorking at Height Regulations2005 allow people who do notwork safely to be prosecuted.!89
