Aeroquip Brand Teflon Hose AssembliesHow To OrderAssembly LengthAssembly length is measuredfrom sealing surface to sealingsurface. When defining thepart number length, measurethe length from gauge pointto gauge point of NAS 1780flareless fittings. The “K”dimensions on page 4 showthe difference between overalllength and length to gaugepoint. With elbow fittings, themeasuring point is the intersectionof the centerline ofthe elbow with the face of thesealing surface.Assembly Length TolerancesUp to and including 18 inches: ± .125Above 18 inches, to and including 36 inches: ±.250Above 36 inches, to and including 50 inches: ±.500Above 50 inches:Rotational Angle MeasurementOn assemblies with an elbowfitting on each end, measurethe rotation angle as shown. The index angle will follow thebasic style hose assembly partnumber indicated (see examplefor “double elbow” assemblies). In all cases, the angle shouldbe expressed in 3 digits. AE246 High Pressure Teflon Hose and “super gem” Resuable FittingsGeneral CharacteristicsEaton’s designed, tested andproved an advanced technology, revolutionary highpressure Teflon hose. Usingthe most modern methods ofwire braiding calculations andhose stress analysis, Eatondeveloped the Aeroquip brandAE246 Teflon hose with PatentedHi-Pac braiding (U.S.Patent # 3,463,197). This wirebraid contains densely packedsmall diameter wires braidedover a minimum thicknessTeflon tube in such a way thatexceptional performance ispossible. This hose exceeds allrequirements of AS1339. TheAE246 hose is recommendedfor normal 3000 psi hydraulicsystems with impulse peaksup to 4500 psi.Because it eliminates unneededmetal reinforcement,Eaton’s AE246 hose is 40%- 50% lighter in weight thanprevious high pressure Teflonhose. It also has a muchsmaller envelope, and has excellentflexing and bend radiuscharacteristics. Eaton’s AE246hose also has low volumetricexpansion, assuring maximumresponse efficiency in hydraulicsystems and brake systems.Because the tube is smoothand homogeneous, it is ableto withstand the high velocity, sudden pressure surges andextreme temperature risesencountered in these systems. The rate of gas effusion andresistance to capillary leakagethrough the hose lines is controlledby a patented extrusionmethod. Inherent resiliencyand toughness are built into the extruded tube byclose control factors affectingcrystallinity. The extruded tube has a tough, smooth, wax-like texture, which resists erosion. Nomaterials of a sticky or viscousnature will stick to its surface. It has essentially zero moistureabsorption, and this, togetherwith its chemical inertness andanti-adhesive characteristics, make it ideal for Eaton’s fluidsystems where maintenanceof a low dew point is necessary.Testing ProceduresEaton’s AE246 hose is thoroughlytested to meet orexceed the requirements ofAS1339* and formally MIL-H-38360A (Amendment 1 forconductive hose).ConductivityThe product line of AE246hose has a Teflon tube, whichis designed to eliminateelectrostatically induced hosefailures. The tube is capableof conducting a direct currentequal to or greater than 6 micro-ampsin sizes - 4, - 6, and- 8; 12 micro-amps in- 10 size and up, with a potentialof 1,000 volts.Application In HighPressure and HighTemperature ServiceEaton’s Teflon hose is unaffectedby fuels, lube oils, coolantsor solvents commonly usedin aircraft applications. Superiorvibration resistance, lowvolumetric expansion and hightemperature resistance makesit ideal for hydraulic systems.Operating Temperature-67°F to +400°F (-55° C to+204°C), fluid and ambientIdentificationIdentification bands showspecification numbers, manufacturer’s code numbers, operating pressure, assemblydate and other required information.EATON CORPORATION Aerospace TF100-24 July 200713

This performance lies inthe separation of the sealingfunction from the retentionfunction.A lip seal is formed by theseparation of the tube in anannular chamber. This sealis assisted by the high unitloading of the ridges on thesleeve inner diameter againstthe tube. A positive grip on thewire reinforcement betweensocket and nipple providespermanent protection againstfitting blow-off.“Super gem” fittings havea dry lube (molybdenumdisulfide) coating on the nipplemale threads. This is a permanentcoating and requires noadditional lubrication during assembly.“super gem” fittingsare designed for assembly to aspecific gap dimension whichindicates a proper assembly.“super gem” adjustableelbow fittings are easily positionedthrough 360° to thedesired relative angle betweenopposite elbow fittings.
