103(1) Structure excavationThis item shall consist of the necessary excavation <strong>for</strong> foundation of culverts,underdrain, <strong>and</strong> other structures not otherwise provided <strong>for</strong> in the Specifications. Except asotherwise provided <strong>for</strong> pipe culverts, the backfilling of completed structures <strong>and</strong> thedisposal of all excavated surplus materials, shall be in accordance with these Specifications<strong>and</strong> in reasonably close con<strong>for</strong>mity with the Plans or as established by the Engineer.This item shall also include necessary diverting of live streams, bailing, pumping,draining, sheeting, bracing, <strong>and</strong> the placing of all necessary backfill.Prior <strong>to</strong> starting excavation operations in any area, all necessary clearing <strong>and</strong> grubbingin that area shall have been per<strong>for</strong>med in accordance with item 100, Clearing <strong>and</strong>Grubbing.Trenches or foundation pits <strong>for</strong> structures or structure footings shall be excavated <strong>to</strong>the lines <strong>and</strong> grades or elevations shown on the approved plan or as staked by theEngineer. They shall be of sufficient size <strong>to</strong> permit the placing of structures or structurefootings of the full width <strong>and</strong> length shown. Any excavation carried beyond the limitsshown or described on the drawings or specifications or beyond the dimension resultingfrom adjustments made by the Engineer shall be backfilled with materials acceptable <strong>and</strong>as directed by the Engineer.The volume of excavation <strong>to</strong> be paid <strong>for</strong> will be the number of cubic meters measured inoriginal position of material acceptably excavated in con<strong>for</strong>mity with the plans or asdirected by the Engineer.104(1) - Embankment from Roadway ExcavationThis item shall consist of the construction of embankment in accordance with thisspecification <strong>and</strong> in con<strong>for</strong>mity with the lines, grades <strong>and</strong> dimensions shown on the plansor established by the Engineer. Embankment shall be constructed of suitable materialwhich is acceptable in the manner specified in this item. It can be common material or rockor non-treated lahar material. Embankment <strong>and</strong> backfill materials shall be pre approved bythe Engineer prior <strong>to</strong> actual laying.Prior <strong>to</strong> construction of embankment, all necessary clearing <strong>and</strong> grubbing in that areashall have been per<strong>for</strong>med in accordance with item 100, Clearing <strong>and</strong> Grubbing.Embankment construction shall consist of constructing roadway embankment, includingpreparation of the areas upon which they are <strong>to</strong> be place.Roadway embankment material shall be placed in horizontal layers not exceeding 200mm (8 inches), loose measurement, <strong>and</strong> shall be compacted as specified be<strong>for</strong>e the nextlayer is placed. The quantity of embankment <strong>to</strong> be paid <strong>for</strong> shall be the volume (cubicmeter) of material compacted in place <strong>and</strong> accepted by the Engineer.


105(1) – Sub Grade PreparationThis item shall consist of the preparation of the sub grade <strong>for</strong> the support of overlyingstructural layers. It shall extend <strong>to</strong> full width of the roadway. Unless authorized by theEngineer, sub grade preparation shall not be done unless the Contrac<strong>to</strong>r is able <strong>to</strong> startimmediately the construction of the pavement structure.Prior <strong>to</strong> commencing preparation of the subgrade, all culverts, cross drains, ducts <strong>and</strong>like (including their fully compacted backfill), ditches, drains <strong>and</strong> drainage outlets shall becompleted. Any work on the preparation of the subgrade shall not be started unless priorwork herein described shall have been approved by the Engineer.The quantity <strong>to</strong> be paid <strong>for</strong> shall be the area, in square meter, of the work specified <strong>to</strong>be carried out <strong>and</strong> accepted by the Engineer.PART – D -SUBBASE AND BASE COURSEItem 200 Aggregate Sub Base CourseThis item shall consist of furnishing , placing <strong>and</strong> compacting an aggregate subbasecourse on a prepared subgrade in accordance with this Specification <strong>and</strong> the lines, grades<strong>and</strong> cross-sections shown on the Plans, or as directed by the Engineer.It shall consist of hard, durable particles or fragments of crushed s<strong>to</strong>ne, crushed slag,or crushed or natural gravel <strong>and</strong> filler or natural or crushed s<strong>and</strong> or other finely dividedmineral matter. The composite material shall be free from vegetable matter <strong>and</strong> lumps orballs of clay, <strong>and</strong> shall be of such nature that it can be compacted readily <strong>to</strong> <strong>for</strong>m a firm,stable subbase. The subbase material shall con<strong>for</strong>m <strong>to</strong> the grading requirements of Table200.1 – Grading Requirements of DPWH St<strong>and</strong>ard Specification 2004.The aggregate subbase material shall be placed at a uni<strong>for</strong>m mixture on preparedsubgrade in a quantity which will provide the required compacted thickness. The maximumcompacted thickness shall not exceed 150mm. all subsequent layers shall be spread <strong>and</strong>compacted in a similar manner. The moisture content of the material shall, if necessary beadjusted prior <strong>to</strong> compaction by watering with approved sprinklers mounted on trucks or bydrying out as required in order <strong>to</strong> obtain the required compaction.The Aggregate Subbase Course will be measured by the cubic meter. The quantity <strong>to</strong>be paid <strong>for</strong> shall be the design volume compacted in-place as shown on the Plans, <strong>and</strong>accepted in the completed course.Item 202 Crushed Aggregate Base CourseThis item shall consist of furnishing, placing <strong>and</strong> compacting crushed gravel, crusheds<strong>to</strong>ne or crushed rock on a prepared subgrade/subbase in one or more layers inaccordance with this Specification <strong>and</strong> lines, grades, thickness <strong>and</strong> typical cross-sectionsshown on the Plans or as established by the Engineer.


When s<strong>to</strong>ppages of concreting operations eventually occur <strong>for</strong> any reason, constructionjoints shall be placed horizontally or as directed by the Engineer <strong>and</strong> be provided withshear keys <strong>and</strong> dowels <strong>to</strong> develop bond. Construction joints shall be approved by theEngineerPoured Joint fillers shall be mixed asphalt <strong>and</strong> mineral or rubber filler con<strong>for</strong>ming <strong>to</strong> theapplicable requirements of Item 705, Joint Materials. Poured filler <strong>for</strong> joints shall con<strong>for</strong>m<strong>to</strong> the requirements of AASHTO M 173. Pre<strong>for</strong>med fillers <strong>for</strong> joints shall con<strong>for</strong>m <strong>to</strong> therequirements of AASHTO M 33 (ASTM D 994), AASHTO M 153, AAHHTO M 220, asspecified, <strong>and</strong> shall be punched <strong>to</strong> admit the dowels where called <strong>for</strong> the plans.The area <strong>to</strong> be paid <strong>for</strong> under this item shall be the number of square meters ofconcrete pavement placed <strong>and</strong> accepted in the completed pavement. All rein<strong>for</strong>cing steelbars incorporated in the concrete pavement shall not be measured separately <strong>for</strong> payment,cost of which has been considered paid under this particular item.Part – G -DRAINAGE AND SLOPE PROTECTION STRUCTUREItem 502(2)a, 502(2)b Curb inlet with h<strong>and</strong>hole, Curb inlet with lined canalThis item shall consist of the construction of curb inlets with h<strong>and</strong>hole, <strong>and</strong> lined canalin accordance with this Specification <strong>and</strong> in reasonably close con<strong>for</strong>mity with the lines <strong>and</strong>grades shown on the Plans or as established by the Engineer.Concrete <strong>for</strong> these structures shall meet the requirements of Item 405, StructuralConcrete of DPWH St<strong>and</strong>ard Specification 2004 edition. Rein<strong>for</strong>cement shall be de<strong>for</strong>medbars cold-bent <strong>to</strong> the shapes <strong>and</strong> accurately placed in position <strong>and</strong> firmly held there duringplacing <strong>and</strong> setting of the concrete. They shall be free from rust, injurious defects such ascracks <strong>and</strong> laminations. Rein<strong>for</strong>cement shall be placed <strong>and</strong> then inspected <strong>and</strong> approvedbe<strong>for</strong>e placing of concrete begins. Steel rein<strong>for</strong>cement shall con<strong>for</strong>m <strong>to</strong> the requirements ofitem 404 (Rein<strong>for</strong>cing Steel).The quantity of curb inlet with h<strong>and</strong>hole <strong>to</strong> be paid <strong>for</strong> shall be the number of unit (ea)completed <strong>and</strong> accepted, while the quantity of curb inlet with lined canal <strong>to</strong> be paid <strong>for</strong>shall be the <strong>to</strong>tal length in meters completed <strong>and</strong> accepted.Part – H – MISCELLANEOUS STRUCTURESItem 413 Pre-<strong>for</strong>med Expansion Joint FillerPre-<strong>for</strong>med joint fillers shall con<strong>for</strong>m <strong>to</strong> the requirements of AASTHO M 33 (ASTM D994), AASTHO M 153, AASTHO M 213, AASTHO M 220, as specified, <strong>and</strong> shall be punched<strong>to</strong> admit the dowels where called <strong>for</strong> on the Plans, The Joint filler shall be furnished in asingle piece <strong>for</strong> the depth <strong>and</strong> width required <strong>for</strong> the joint unless otherwise specified by theEngineer. When use of more than one piece is authorized <strong>for</strong> a joint, the abutting ends


shall be fastened securely <strong>and</strong> held accurately <strong>to</strong> shape, by using stapling or otherpositive fastening satisfac<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>to</strong> the Engineer.The quantity of the pre-<strong>for</strong>med joint filler <strong>to</strong> be paid <strong>for</strong> shall be the number of squaremeters completed in-place <strong>and</strong> accepted by the Engineer.Item 600(1) Concrete Curb <strong>and</strong> GutterThis Item shall consist of the construction of cast in place concrete curb, <strong>and</strong>combination of curb <strong>and</strong> gutter in accordance with this Specification at the location, <strong>and</strong> incon<strong>for</strong>mity with lines, grades, dimensions <strong>and</strong> design, shown on the Plans or as requiredby the Engineer.Concrete shall be class “A” <strong>and</strong> shall con<strong>for</strong>m <strong>to</strong> the requirements of Item 405,Structural Concrete.The length of curb <strong>and</strong> combination of curb <strong>and</strong> gutter <strong>to</strong> be paid <strong>for</strong> shall be thenumber of linear meters cast in place in accordance with the required dimensions shownon the Plans.Item 601 Concrete SidewalkSidewalk shall con<strong>for</strong>m <strong>to</strong> the dimension <strong>and</strong> thickness of the approved Plan. Cementconcrete shall be Class “A” as specified in Item 405, Structural Concrete. The bed coursematerial shall be placed in accordance with Item 200, Aggregate Subbase Course.The area <strong>to</strong> be paid <strong>for</strong> shall be the number of square meters of the sidewalkmeasured, completed in-place <strong>and</strong> accepted.Part – J – WAITING SHEDSTECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS AND SCOPE OF WORKSA lump sum item shall be provided <strong>for</strong> the construction of waiting shed which shall befull compensation <strong>for</strong> all labor, materials, fixtures, <strong>to</strong>ols, equipment, <strong>and</strong> all incidentalsnecessary <strong>for</strong> the completion of the waiting shed.For the purpose of progress billings, a breakdown of this lump sum item shall beincluded as annex <strong>to</strong> the Bill of Quantities. The aggregate of the breakdown price should beequal <strong>to</strong> the lump sum <strong>bid</strong> price <strong>for</strong> this item.D2SITE WORKS2AClearing <strong>and</strong> StakingThe Contrac<strong>to</strong>r shall stake out locations of footings including vertical <strong>and</strong>horizontal references of the com<strong>for</strong>t room in the presence of the Engineer in


<strong>and</strong> dimension shown on the plans or as directed by the Engineer.Excavation shall be in con<strong>for</strong>mity with lines, grades <strong>and</strong> dimension shown on the plansor as directed by the Engineer <strong>and</strong> shall be in accordance <strong>to</strong> the requirement of Item103, Structure Excavation.Backfilling shall be in accordance <strong>to</strong> provisions prescribed in Item 103, StructureExcavation.Excavated material shall be disposed of immediately <strong>to</strong> designated place, except whenexcavated materials are suitable <strong>and</strong> shall be used <strong>for</strong> backfill.D3CONCRETES3A Cast-In-Place ConcreteConcrete shall con<strong>for</strong>m <strong>to</strong> Item 405, Structural Concrete. Concrete <strong>for</strong> footing, beams,<strong>and</strong> slab on fill shall be of Class A (3000psi). All cement shall be Portl<strong>and</strong> type –1, ASTMC-150.Fine aggregates used in the composition of concrete shall consist of washed river s<strong>and</strong>.Coarse Aggregate shall consist of s<strong>to</strong>ne, gravel or other approved inert materials withsimilar characteristics. Size shall be ¾” crushed gravel.The water <strong>to</strong> be used <strong>for</strong> the concrete works shall be potable. Rein<strong>for</strong>cing steel barsshall be de<strong>for</strong>med rein<strong>for</strong>cing steel bar Grade # 230.D4MASONRYS4AConcrete Masonry Unit WorkConcrete Hollow Blocks shall be machine made <strong>and</strong> have a minimum face thickness of1” (0.025). Nominal size shall be 100mm (4”) thick x 200mm (8”) x 400mm (16”).S<strong>and</strong> shall be washed river s<strong>and</strong>, well screened, clean, <strong>and</strong> free from loam, silt <strong>and</strong>other impurities. Mixture of cement mortar shall be made of one part Portl<strong>and</strong> Cement<strong>and</strong> two parts fine aggregate by volume.D6WOOD AND PLASTICS6ACarpentry <strong>and</strong> JoineryThe work under this item shall consist of furnishing all required materials, fabricatedwoodwork, <strong>to</strong>ols, equipment <strong>and</strong> labor <strong>and</strong> per<strong>for</strong>ming all operations necessary <strong>for</strong> thesatisfac<strong>to</strong>ry completion of all carpentry <strong>and</strong> joinery work in strict accord with applicabledrawingsLumber of different species herein specified <strong>for</strong> the various parts of the structure shallbe well seasoned, sawn straight, sun dried or kiln dried <strong>and</strong> free from defects such as


loose unsound knots, pitch pockets, sapwood, cracks <strong>and</strong> other imperfections impairingstrength, durability <strong>and</strong> appearance.Trusses <strong>and</strong> other roof framings shall be assembled, fitted <strong>and</strong> set <strong>to</strong> exact location <strong>and</strong>slope indicated in the approved Plans.Nails, screw, bolts <strong>and</strong> straps shall be provided <strong>and</strong> used where suitable <strong>for</strong> fixingcarpentry <strong>and</strong> joinery works. S9B.1Wall Surfaces( Masonry/Concrete)Surface Preparation:(new painting)1. Surface <strong>to</strong> be painted must be allowed <strong>to</strong> dry <strong>for</strong> 14 <strong>to</strong> 28 days be<strong>for</strong>eneutralization.2. Surface should be clean <strong>and</strong> dry, free from oil, grease, dust, dirt,contaminants <strong>and</strong> all loose girt or mortar.Painting System Recommendation:1. Cover all cracks by using Patching Compound be<strong>for</strong>e painting the surfaces.2. Apply one (1) coat of Flat Latex by brush, roller or spray. Let dryovernight.3. Apply two (2) coats of Semi-Gloss Latex by brush, rolleror spray. Let dry overnight.S9B.3 Safety PrecautionsThe use <strong>and</strong> application of paints is not considered a dangerousoccupation, but health <strong>and</strong> safety hazards do exist whenever flammablematerials are h<strong>and</strong>led.The following rules summarize the precautions <strong>to</strong> be observed when h<strong>and</strong>ling<strong>and</strong> <strong>apply</strong>ing paints.1. Good housekeeping must be part of any efficient operation. All paintingmaterials <strong>and</strong> equipment should be s<strong>to</strong>red in a room assigned <strong>for</strong> thepurpose that is consistent with manufacturer’s recommendations. Thes<strong>to</strong>rage room must not be near any heat sources such as furnaces, steampipes or radia<strong>to</strong>rs. Rags <strong>and</strong> waste soiled with paint should be removedfrom the premises at the end of each day’s work or be s<strong>to</strong>red in metalcoveredcontainers half-filled with water. Spills must be cleaned upimmediately <strong>to</strong> prevent falls.2. Sufficient ventilation is the key <strong>to</strong> safe application. Although many solventsare not extremely <strong>to</strong>xic, the use of adequate protective masks, clothing <strong>and</strong>equipment is recommended.3. Open flames <strong>and</strong> sparks from cigarettes <strong>and</strong> matches must be prohibitedfrom the painting area, as these are fire <strong>and</strong> explosion hazards.S9CCeramic Tiles <strong>and</strong> S<strong>to</strong>ne WorkThe work under this item shall consist of furnishing all required materials, <strong>to</strong>ols,equipment <strong>and</strong> labor necessary <strong>for</strong> the satisfac<strong>to</strong>ry completion of tile work in strictaccord with applicable drawings, details <strong>and</strong> these specifications.All coursed of actions pertaining <strong>to</strong> the construction procedures <strong>and</strong> discrepancies shallbe fully coordinated <strong>to</strong> the Project Engineer prior <strong>to</strong> the completion of the project.
