This section describes the case studies done indifferent parts of <strong>Beijing</strong>. The selected sites, surveymethodology, case study descriptions and resultsare presented.3.1 Case study site selectionThe team visited sites in many parts of <strong>Beijing</strong>and selected study areas for detailed surveys inareas with different land uses (commercial, office,residential – high-end, mid-end and hutong – andmixed land use) to document <strong>parking</strong> issues thatare representative for a large part of <strong>Beijing</strong>. Alldaysurveys, both for on-street and off-street wereheld at different locations in <strong>Beijing</strong> and shownbelow.Two main areas studied are Guang’anmen(Xicheng district) and Guomao (Chaoyangdistrict). Guomao is chosen as it is the centralbusiness district of <strong>Beijing</strong> with large investmentin new developments and extensive traffic congestion.Following BTRC’s suggestion, Guang’anmenwas chosen since <strong>parking</strong> reform is under planningin this area and recommendations for <strong>Beijing</strong>could be included in this project.Other areas selected are the Cheniandianmechanical <strong>parking</strong>, Liufang metro station.Parking surveys were carried out during weekdaysin September and October 2014.3.2 Survey methodology3.2.1 On-street <strong>parking</strong>Goal of the surveys is to document existing <strong>parking</strong>practices. Studied are:●●<strong>parking</strong> demand – documentation of thenumber of cars <strong>parking</strong> on different streetsthroughout the day;●●<strong>parking</strong> supply - documentation of thenumber of officially marked on-street andsetback <strong>parking</strong> supply per street section●●<strong>parking</strong> location – documentation of the locationof parked cars, distinguishing betweenon-street, sidewalk and setback;●●<strong>parking</strong> occupancies, turnovers and durationsare derived from the survey data above.Step 1: prepare routes and survey formsAll streets surveyed are divided up into 1 hourroutesfor each surveyor.
