The get better control, data and revenue fromon-street <strong>parking</strong> in <strong>Beijing</strong>, new on-street<strong>parking</strong> systems and policies are highly needed.Recommendations for both are presented in thischapter.A rendering is shown of Hongju Bei Jie in theGuang’anmen Langqin area, showing the benefitsof the recommended on-street <strong>parking</strong> system.The street is currently stacked with illegallyparked cars on the street and sidewalk. Walkingis unpleasant and cycling has become dangerouswith cars coming in and out of <strong>parking</strong> spaces.The restaurants and shops on the southern side(right in the picture) have become inaccessible.The proposed on-street <strong>parking</strong> system includesperpendicular and parallel <strong>parking</strong> spaces on bothsides of the street with <strong>parking</strong> meters visible inyellow. Vehicle encroachment on the sidewalkis physically prevented with the installation ofbollard on the sidewalk’s edge. To further enhancethe attractiveness of the street for all users, bikelanes in both directions, a bike sharing station, awidened and continuous sidewalk, public seatingand trees are included.
