On theother hand, already developers build much moreresidential off-street parking than the standardsprescribe as a minimum. All of the 30 residentialbuildings studied, which were built within thethird ring road and under the current parkingstandard, built more than 0.3 parking spaces/unit,with an average of 0.99 parking spaces/unit. Achange to the existing parking standard for newdevelopments may therefore not have much ofan effect to residential parking supply. For officeparking supply the developments studied, alsoopened between 2005-2014, show an average of0.58 parking spaces/100 m 2 , where 0.65 is theminimum. Increases to parking standards lead tomuch more traffic in office-rich areas.The plan of using public and green spaces forparking is detrimental to the livability of the city.In residential communities, especially in olderones where no off-street parking was built withBeijing Parking, ITDP-China 1001 March 2015
