Activity Book 29—April 2007 6Smiley’s messageHello! I’m Smiley Murphy, the DPI&F Animal Welfare dog.Since I last spoke to you, I have been out and about visiting schools across Queensland tospread the message about Helping Animals Smile. During February and March, I spent time inschools at Toowoomba, Emerald, Springsure and Woorabinda. So my travel passport is welland truly stamped! Maybe I visited one of your schools during my travels. One thing I notice about my visits to schools and spending time with kids like you is thateverybody responds in a positive and happy way to the messages and presentations I give. Ithink that is great – because if you are happy about learning something, it means it is morelikely to stick in your brain and you will remember it, rather than something you are not so keenon (I won’t mention any particular lessons – but we all have one we don’t really like, don’t we!)The same principle applies to me – if I wasn’t happy and didn’t love getting out and about somuch with my carer Greg, spreading the message about caring for all animals and Helpingthem Smile, I wouldn’t like doing what I do and wouldn’t want to do it. Because Greg looks afterme so well and cares for me in such a kind way, I love my job and can’t wait to share mythoughts on Helping Animals Smile. When you are happy, you enjoy life so much more! That is why it is important to help all animals be happy – and we can all do our bit to ensure weHelp Animals Smile and be happy, even if you don’t own an animal yourself. On the Help an Animal Smile website there is plenty of information on things you can do tohelp animals smile and be happy. You can find the website at http://www.dpi.qld.gov.au/animalwelfare under Kids Pages. Not only does it have a heap of really great stuff aboutcaring for all animals and a heap of cool games – it has a really cute photo of me and Greg.Check it out so you know what I look like if Greg and I come and visit your school soon!Keep smiling until next time!SmileyAnimal Welfare Unitwww.dpi.qld.gov.au/animalwelfare
