SOUNDTOUCHThe "SuperNATURAL Piano sound engine" delivers theexpressivity of an acoustic grand piano. All models are equipped with our newly developed SuperNATURAL Pianosound engine, which was born by bringing together V-Piano technologyand 88-key stereo multisampling technology. This new sound engine is theproduct of Roland’s deep research of the characteristics of acoustic pianos, with the goal of faithfully reproducing the rich tone and expressivity of aconcert grand piano. The maximum polyphony of 128 is more than enoughfor even the most complex pieces.Expressivity in every single keyEach of the 88 notes on a grand piano has its own character, due to the factthat the strings are different sizes and lengths, use different materials, andare struck by hammers of different sizes. These differences create variationsin the tone color and resonance of each note. For the new SuperNATURALPiano sound engine, Roland sampled all 88 notes of a variety of world-classpianos and used its unique digital technology to faithfully reproduce the full, rich tone and expressivity of the world’s finest pianos.Expressivity according to the player’s touchPianos produce differences not only in volume, but also subtle variationsin tone color, depending on how forcefully the key is struck. UsingRoland’s latest technology, theSuperNATURAL piano soundengine delivers natural andseamless changes in tone color inresponse to the player’s touch. Itsexpanded dynamic range supportsthe most advanced and subtletechniques, just as one wouldexpect in an acoustic grand piano.Expressivity of decaying soundsVariation in tone color produced bythe SuperNATURAL Piano soundengine with heavier touch.pp p mp mf f ff*The graph and drawings are artist's conceptions. The natural decay of notes and beautiful lingering tones are importantelements of a piano’s sound. The decaying sound of an acoustic pianonot only decreases in volume, butalso gradually changes in color toa softer tone. The SuperNATURALpiano sound engine replicatesthis natural decay, just as in anacoustic grand.*The graph and drawings are artist's conceptions.Inspiring expressivity made possible by Roland'spowerful technologiesAll models feature "Piano Resonance", which faithfully reproduces thesympathetic vibrations* 1 between strings, as well as other subtle nuancessuch as variations in lingering tones according to how quickly keys arereleased* 2 . It even replicates the resonance one hears while the damperpedal is depressed and the dampers move off the strings* 3 . HP307 andHP305 also offer "Grand Piano Presence II", which uses high and full-rangestereo speakers in a special design to replicate the unique aural “presence”of a grand piano. High notes are heard from "above” the player and richbasses emanate from below, near the floor. The flagship HP307 features"Piano Designer", which lets the user customize all components of thepiano's sound, including even the position of the "virtual" grand piano lid.*1 String Resonance *2 Key Off Resonance *3 Damper ResonanceContinuous detection pedals respond tothe player's sensitivities.Variation in tone color produced by theSuperNATURAL Piano sound engine as thetone decays. The damper and soft pedals continuously detect the slightest differences in theamount they are depressed, thus supporting a full range of pedal expression. For example, there are subtle changes intone where the damper is barely touchingthe string. There are also variations in thesustain of a sound when you depressthe pedal gradually. The pedals evensupport the most subtle expression, such as depressing the pedal again afterreleasing it for an instant.Natural variations in tonal qualityThe PHA II and PHA III keyboards translatethe emotions of the player into sound.Their natural touch is not produced by springs, but instead by the hammer'sweight and movement. Just as in an acoustic piano, the lower notes feelslightly heavier and the higher notes feel lighter. The PHA II and PHA IIIkeyboards also faithfully replicate the unique response of grand pianos, where the keys move downward lightly when you play softly and give moreresistance when you play more forcefully. The "PHA III" keyboard translates into sound thedifferences in how you play. The HP307 comes with the "PHA III"keyboard, which delivers superiorrepetition and expressivity than the"PHA II" keyboard. Along with the"SuperNATURAL Piano sound engine,"subtle differences in how one playsare faithfully reflected in the sound. The Ivory-Feel keyboard replicatesthe texture of ivory and ebony.Modeled after high-end acoustic grand pianos, the white and black keytops are made of a material that replicates the unique appearance andtexture of real ivory and ebony keys. The white keys consist of a twopiece"surface over base material"construction to create the sameappearance you would find on anacoustic piano and reduce the noise offingernails tapping the keys. Thanks toits moisture-absorbing characteristics, the more you play the Ivory-Feelkeyboard, the better it feels.*HP307, HP305MoistureabsorptionKeyboardFingermoistureMoistureabsorptionA comfortable texture has been achieved with the useof new materials with moisture-absorbing characteristics.Simulated “escapement” replicates the feel andresponse of a grand pianoDepress a key slowly and you will feel the resistance grow graduallyand then become lighter again. This occurs on acoustic pianos whenthe hammer releases or “escapes” from the key mechanism. Byreplicating this, the PHA II and PHA III keyboards further enhance thesuperb response and expressivity of Roland pianos.Select a comfortable touch andenjoy playing to your heart's content. On all Roland Digital Pianos, users can choose* between differenttouch sensitivity – from light to standard and heavy. You can adjust thetouch response of your keyboard depending on how strong your fi ngersare or for particular practice objectives.* The HP307 offers 100 levels of touch sensitivity.Roland pays attention to important details in areas thatyou do not see.The length of the hidden portion ofthe keys has been made as longas possible, so that the fulcrum islocated further back on the keys. This reduces the difference in touchresponse from the front to the rearof the keys, replicating the longerkeys and superior response of agrand piano and further enhancingthe natural playing feel of the RolandDigital Piano.Relationship between key lengthand touch weightKey is the optimum length (PHA III / PHA II)LongFulcrumKey is too shortShortFulcrumNatural touchUnnaturally heavy*The graph and drawings are artist's conceptions.DESIGNLESSON & ENTERTAINMENTBeautiful cabinet design and finishes compliment any decorWe paid meticulous attention to design details, just as we did with tone andtouch. Cabinet parts and control panels are coordinated according to woodgrain and matching colors. The front legs add both stability and style. Brassmusic holders* 1 and large music rests* 2 help you manage a variety of musicscores. The three pedals have a traditional lateral design that allows smootherpedal movements. And all models featurethe “Classic” fallboard position to concealthe control panel and display when desired.Available finishes include the traditionalsatin black, a warmrosewood woodgrain, and a mirrorlikepolished ebony.*1 HP307, HP305 *2 HP307,HP305All HP series models featurethe Classic Position.Ease of use is always a Roland advantage. The simple and intuitive control panel affords quick and easy accessto the HP Series’ numerous features and applications, and theHP307 offers a large LCD panel for the ideal visual interface with theinstrument. Frequently used connection jacks are conveniently locatednear the front of all models and all come with a handy headphone hook.Features only available in the digital realm help expandyour musical world.A 3-track recorder lets you easily record, playback, and save yourperformances. This offers numerous benefits for both performance andpractice, including the ability to work with left hand and right hand partsseparately. The “Twin Piano” function allows you to split the keyboard leftand right into two regions, each withits own middle “C” and damper pedal. Two players wearing headphones canthen play completely independentlywithout hearing one another (IndividualTwin-Piano), a powerful applicationfor “partner” lessons or piano labs.Of course, the ability to hear yourselfprivately on headphones has always beena major advantage of digital instruments, since it allows you to play anywhere, anytime without disturbing others.Damper pedal,left-key rangeSame key “C”Damper pedal,right-key rangeEnjoy playing your favorite songs along with fullbacking tracksThe HP series all come with a wide range of built-in songs, ranging fromclassical to jazz. However, you can also playback commercially available SMFmusic files or audio files stored on a standard USB flash memory device (soldseparately). With the optional Roland CD-01A CD Drive, you can even playback and play along with songs directly from a standard audio CD. Duringplayback of the built-in songs or SMF music files from a USB memory stick, you can alter or mute individual tracks, such as a piano solo, to create anexciting ensemble performance. Since you can alter both the key and tempoindependently, you can slow down playback when learning a new piece orfind a more comfortable key for a song with which you want to sing along.During playback of audio files fromUSB memory, you can also alter keyand tempo independently, as well asminimize the lead vocal or instrumentvia the “Center Cancel” function. Allmodels also boast over 300 GM2/GStones with layer and split capabilityto support almost any musicalperformance or study.6 7
