AUGUST • Feast of the Assumption of Mary – pilgrimage and parish fêtes in the sanctuaries dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Among the most visited are the parish fête at the Church of the Mother of God of Dol, Dol (Krašić municipality), the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Kloštar Ivanić, the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Kupinec (Klinča Sela municipality), the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Pokupsko, the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Savski Nart (Rugvica municipality), the Chapel of the Virgin Mary of Volavje (Jastrebarsko), the Church of Virgin Mary’s Visitation to Elisabeth in Vukovina (Velika Gorica) and the parish fête in the Eastern Rites Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Most Holy Mother of God, Pećno (15.8) • Acorn Fest in Turopolje Wood –custom of annual visiting of woods and “examining” the abundance of acorns on St. Bartholomew’s, Bartolovo (24.8) The event traditionally takes place at an old wooden house in the Turopolje Wood. As a part of the event, performers present shepherds’ games: prasićkanje – a game in which one must try to push a small potato, pumpkin, or a pebble into a hole in the ground using sticks or rods, baltićanje – a game in which baltice (small axes) are thrown at a tree, nožićkanje – a game of throwing small knives at a tree. Exhibit of old weapons and folk costumes. A project to preserve the autochthonous Croatian Turopolje pig breed is also part of this event.
