Polk Audio History—A Passion For SoundPolk Audio was founded in Baltimore in 1972 by JohnsHopkins University graduates Matthew Polk and GeorgeKlopfer. Today, Polk Audio is a leading international manufacturerof high quality home and automotive loudspeakers.Polk ® products emphasize superior sound and build quality, and feature many patented and award-winning innovations.Polk Audio has built a reputation as “The SpeakerSpecialists ® .” Polk products are sold throughout theUSA, Canada and in over 50 countries around the world.Polk Audio’s mission has always been to build highquality, great sounding speakers at affordable prices. For the people of Polk Audio, building speakersis not just a job; it’s a passion.SRT Series, circa 1995The LSi LegacyFirst introduced in 2001, LSi represented Polk’s expressionof a true high-performance loudspeaker that was alsoreasonably priced. LSi was created for the serious listener, those who really enjoy music and who enjoy intently listeningto their audio system. LSi delivered a flatter frequencyresponse with lower distortion and revealed more detailthan comparably priced speakers. The series was alsotouted in the press for its tonal accuracy. LSi imagedvery well, thanks in part to the quality of the tweeterand the wide dispersion of the small midbass drivers. The series’ performance has made LSi Polk’s flagshipproduct for almost a decade. But after a decade, it wastime to revisit LSi. The result is not so much an evolutionof the current series as it is a re-engineering of thequalities that have made LSi a great series.LSi25, circa 20014 Polk Audio Customer Service: 1-800-377-7655 (Outside US & Canada: +1 410-358-3600) Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:30 PM EST, polkcs@polkaudio.com

Performance Objectives of the LSiM SeriesThe performance objectives for the new LSiM Seriespredate the original LSi design and are, in fact, designprinciples Polk Audio first set down during developmentof its original Monitor loudspeakers.Sound that virtually transports the listener to the sceneof the recorded performance. These ideals have been guiding principles for Polk Audio’sbest high-performance loudspeakers:1. Pleasing tonality, even during extended listeningat performance levels.2. Crisp, lifelike impulses, transients and coherentdetail without any unnatural ringing or decay.3. Natural reproduction of complex low frequencyinstruments and special effects.4. Uniform sonic representation within the listeningarea and immersive spatial impression.5. Reproduce concert/theater levels whilemaintaining linearity and accuracy.6. Compatibility with a wide array of electronicsboth past, present and future.7. Work as promised for many years of enjoyment.2011 LSiM SeriesFor more information visit our website at www.polkaudio.com 5

Applications/ConfigurationsFloorstanding & Bookshelf LoudspeakersTo enjoy the most realistic stereo image and lifelike sound, place the speakers so that an equilateral triangle is createdbetween the speakers and your favorite listening position.Angle the speakers toward the middle as necessary in orderto support a more solid center image. And experiment withthe distance between your speakers and both the back andside walls. You’ll experience some bass boost with thespeakers located close to walls.StereoTVThe LSiM Series bookshelf loudspeakers were designedto provide excellent performance on a bookshelf or placedon a floor stand. For best results place LSiM bookshelfloudspeakers so the tweeter height is within 6" (15cm)of seated ear height. When using speaker stands, select sturdy stands 30" - 36" (76.2 - 91.4cm) high.If you are using your LSiM Series bookshelf loudspeakersas rear channels in a home theater system, they should beplaced on the rear or side walls, slightly above (and, on theside walls behind) the listening position. Angle them towardthe listening area if possible.90°90°20° 20°Center Channel LoudspeakerWith today’s modern flat panel TVs, the most popularplacement, and our recommendation for your centerchannel speaker, is beneath your TV screen. You mayalso place your center channel above your TV shouldyou choose. LSiM center channel loudspeakers arevery heavy, and we do not recommend wall mountingthem, unless placed on a sturdy shelf.5.1Note: If you have an older model television, youcould experience a color shift or image distortionin your TV’s screen. If that is the case, move thespeaker away from your TV.90°TV90°F/X Surround LoudspeakersThe LSiM Series surround loudspeakers must be wallmounted, either on side walls or rear walls; they havebuilt-in wall mounting keyhole slots. Mount the loudspeakers6-8 feet off the floor. If you’re setting up a 7.1system, mount the Surround Back Left and SurroundBack Right loudspeakers at the same height as theSurround Left and Surround Right loudspeakers.20° 20°Make sure the material on which you plan to mount thespeakers (plaster, drywall, paneling, stone, etc.) can supportthe weight of the speakers (LSiM702f/x = approx 28.9 lbs/13.1 kg ea). Be aware of any electrical wiring or plumbingthat may be behind your walls.7.1Note: The LSiM702f/x Surround Loudspeaker should beoriented so that its Dynamic Sonic Engine (3 1/4" mid-rangeand 1" Ring Radiator tweeter) points toward your listeningarea. Therefore, the F/X surround loudspeaker that wouldserve as the right surround on a sidewall will becomethe left surround on a rear wall.8 Polk Audio Customer Service: 1-800-377-7655 (Outside US & Canada: +1 410-358-3600) Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:30 PM EST, polkcs@polkaudio.com

Right SurroundDynamic SonicEngineLeft SurroundDynamic SonicEngineLSiM702f/x Surround Loudspeaker PlacementWall Distance Switch (located on baffle underneath the grille)If position limitations demand that your LSiM702f/x loudspeakersbe mounted closer than 2' (60cm) from side walls or ceiling, the proximity of the surface can result in a response “bump”between 50 and 200Hz. This can cause the loudspeakers tosound “boomy.” The “Wall Distance” switch flattens responseand eliminates “boominess” without sacrificing deep bassresponse for more lifelike sound. Set the switch accordingly,

Hookups, Preparation & OptionsWire PreparationFollow the hookup directions included with your receiver/amplifier. Strip 1/2" (12.7mm) of insulation from each of thetwo conductors of the wire to expose the bare metal andtwist each of the individual conductors into single unfrayedstrands. Note that one of the terminals on the rear of eachspeaker is red (+) and the other is black (–). Make certainthat you connect the wire from the positive (+) terminalof your amplifier or receiver to the red (+) terminal onyour speaker and the wire from the negative (–) terminalof your amplifier or receiver to the black (–) terminal onyour speaker. Most wire has some indicator (such ascolor-coding, ribbing or writing) on one of the twoconductors to help you maintain consistency.Input Plate1 2Binding PostsTo connect wire to the binding post, unscrew the bindingpost cap and insert the bare wire into the hole near thebase of the binding post. Do not insert the insulated partof the wire into the hole as this will not give you a goodconnection. Tighten the binding post cap until it seatsfirmly with the wire, but do not over tighten.Loosen hex nut.Insert speaker wirethrough hole.ConnectorsYou have several options when choosing connectorsfor your speaker wires, and it’s really a matter ofpersonal preference. Three of the more commonlyused are banana plugs, spade lugs and bare wire.3 4If you know where you want to locate your speakersand plan to set up your system and leave them there, then bare wire will work fine. Just make sure there arenot stray strands of wire that could come into contact.Tighten hex nut.Do not insert insulatedsection of speaker wire.If you like to experiment with different speaker locations, spade lugs or banana plugs offer more convenient optionswhen it comes to disconnecting and reconnecting wires.Banana PlugsLSiM binding posts have openings in the ends of theircaps to accept individual banana plugs. The bindingposts cannot accept dual banana plugs.10 Polk Audio Customer Service: 1-800-377-7655 (Outside US & Canada: +1 410-358-3600) Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:30 PM EST, polkcs@polkaudio.com

Standard HookupBi-Wiring & Bi-AmpingIf you decide to bi-wire or bi-amp, you must removethe jumpers between the terminal posts. Failure to dothis could result in damage to your amplifier and loudspeakers. The binding post caps must be completelyremoved to remove the jumpers, which use ring terminals. There are color coded collars so you can identify whichis (+) or (–) after you remove the caps.Bi-Wiring (see Figure 1)Bi-wiring can provide noticeable improvements in the overalltransparency of your loudspeakers. Run separate speaker wiresto the low and high frequency drivers from a single amplifier(the upper set of binding posts are for the high frequency drivers, the lower set of binding posts are for the low frequency drivers):after removing the jumpers, connect one set of speaker wiresto the upper terminals on each speaker and one set of wiresto the lower terminals. Connect the other ends of both wiresets to the same amplifier outputs.Figure 1: Bi-WiringBi-Amping (see Figure 2)Bi-amping allows you to use separate amplifiers for the high andlow frequency sections of your loudspeaker for greater dynamicrange and lower distortion. We recommend that your separateamplifiers have identical gain to preserve the speaker’s voicingbalance. After removing the jumpers, connect the speaker wiresfrom the high frequency amplifier outputs to the upper set ofterminal posts on each speaker. Follow the same procedurefor connecting the low frequency amplifier outputs to thelower set of terminals. Remember to maintain correct wiringpolarity (+ to +, – to –) in all connections.Wire RecommendationsThese recommendations are for all connectionsfrom the amplifier/receiver to each speaker:RunsGaugeLengths up to 25'16 or betterLengths greater than 25' 14but less than 50'Lengths greater than 50' 12but less than 75'Lengths greater than 75' 12Figure 2: Bi-AmpingFor more information visit our website at www.polkaudio.com 11

LSiM Rubber FootLSiM Floor SpikeRubber Feet & Adjustable Floor SpikesRubber feet and adjustable floor spikes are includedwith your LSiM floorstanding loudspeakers to anchorand stabilize the speaker on any type of floor. However, you may wish to tilt the speaker backwards or forwarda tiny bit in order to optimize your listening area. Thisis a subtle change you can experience that optimizesimaging in your setup. To Adjust The Floor SpikesThe floor spikes can be adjusted with the use of thesupplied 5 mm hex (Allen) wrench. Most floorstandingspeakers are adjustable only from below and requiretwo hands. The LSiM floor spikes are adjustablefrom above.Removing Rubber FeetNote: If the speaker is stable on the floor, no adjustmentis necessary. If the speaker is unstable, follow these steps:1. The speaker will be inclined to settle on three of thefour spikes leaving one spike slightly off the floor.2. Determine which spike needs to be adjusted.3. Use the supplied hex wrench and turn it clockwiseto lower the spike or counterclockwise to raise it.4. The threaded portion of the spike is coated witha locking compound, so the spike may offer someresistance when you turn it.5. As the spike contacts the floor, it will becomemore difficult to turn. At that point the speakershould be stabilized.Adjusting Floor Spike with SuppliedHex (Allen) WrenchClockwise to raiseCounterclockwiseto lower12 Polk Audio Customer Service: 1-800-377-7655 (Outside US & Canada: +1 410-358-3600) Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:30 PM EST, polkcs@polkaudio.com

Caring for Your LSiM LoudspeakersEnclosure FinishYour LSiM enclosures (except LSiM702f/x) are finishedin real natural wood veneer. Clean these panels periodicallywith a soft cloth and furniture polish to remove dust andfingerprints. Never use harsh detergents and cleaning fluids.Important Note: Do not use any petroleum basedcleaners or solvents on the loudspeaker cabinets.• Clean wood panels with furniture polish and a soft cloth.• Do not use furniture polish on black gloss lacquer.• Clean black lacquer veneer with a damp cloth.Baffle SmudgesDust baffles and F/X end caps with a dry or damp cloth.(A damp cloth is one that has been sprayed with arecommended cleaner, not one soaked with water.)We recommend you use a lint-free cloth; LSiM rubbertrim rings have a slight texture to them and can collectfibers from a cloth that is not lint-free.Dusting The BaffleUse a can of compressed air for the grille and/or baffleto dust. Use a “computer keyboard” vacuum but onlyon the grille not the baffle. For more information visit our website at www.polkaudio.com 13
