REBECA Forever ...A long awaited dream is about to meet its destiny. It has been a matter of immense importance andresponsibility on behalf of the students’ union (BESUSU) to restore normalcy and ensure the conductionof the student activities and other activities that not only used to happen earlier but were also dreamed of,as should be in an Institute of National Importance. Attempts have been made to meet the benchmarksand in many respects we have achieved success. We have been successful in organizing the institute TechFest i.e. INSTRUO 09, which was held on 11 th April and 12 th April, 2009 in the university campus. Newinitiatives have been taken especially in the field of sports. Apart from conducting the routine sportstournaments, we have been able to restore the dignity and continuity of the INVITATION CUP (AnInter College cricket tournament), which we also won this year and the participation from the othercolleges have been commendable. Apart from this we have started two more cricket tournaments i.e. interyear, which will be organized henceforth in The Oval and Suvojit Saha Memorial Cup (in the memory ofour beloved Late. Suvojit Saha), which was unique, in the sense that it was played entirely during night inthe Lords in March 2009. Then we were successful in forming the various clubs in the university, whichattracted the attention of the students in very large amount. These clubs are performing very well andhave very promising future. No doubt, time has changed and we were very much susceptible in meetingthis change. The mood of BEings can be seen at various occasions but the true soul and joy of all lies inREBECA. It is going to be a matter immense joy as The REBECA has been once again restored in thecampus. I express my gratitude towards the REBECA organizing committee for organizing and makingthis possible. I wish it all the best.Avisek Dey,PresidentBESU, Students’ Union(U.G.)xiv

BEings are back !After a gap of one year REBECA is back. REBECA for us is the celebration of the spirit of being a"BEing". The times are changing; we have left behind a turbulent past and are looking towards a newdawn. It is my firm belief that now no one can stop us from achieving what we are destined to achieve. It is sheer hard work and commitment of BEings which makes REBECA so much special. It is our onlyopportunity to connect with the glorious past of the B.E.College and we will do whatever we can to bringthat glory back to our beloved Alma mater. I would like to thank Prof. Aditya Bandopadhyay who hadalways stood beside us whenever needed. I would also like to thank our respected Vice Chancellor Prof.Ajoy Kumar Ray without whom this event wouldn't have been possible. I would also like to thank all thealumni across the globe for their active participation in REBECA and we hope you would continue tosupport us in this way.Abhinav KumarGeneral SecretaryBESU, Students' Union(U.G.)xv

REBECA and nothing beyond ...This year in the history of the college will be marked as the year of “RENASCENCE”. It’s high timenow to wake our senses and ignite the fire of true potential and rise from the ashes to show to the world, who we really are and what is our true potential. Our branches of this great college might have got hurtbut the root; the very soul of the institute still remains intact in its pure form and it is this root that fromwhich we will rise again to the heights that no one had ever attained. But then this cannot be doneunilaterally, this requires the co-operation of the administration, Faculty and most important our Alumni. The Alumni are the galaxy of stars in the vast expense of the horizon of an Institution. It is foundnecessary to harness them in a corporate body for joint concerted action for the benefit of the Institution.Let us not waste any more time in doing post mortems of the past, there is always up and downs in thespan of institutes as old and great as our Alma Mater. But let us not forget that the night is darkest justbefore the dawn and we can assure you that the dawn is very near. The REBECA 09 this year is twilightand is clear sign of the brightness that the future beholds.I would like to express my gratitude to my friends, our faculty members and our very supportive alumnifor their kind support throughout.Chiranjib DasSecretary GeneralREBECA 2009xvi

... time of our livesApril 27, 28, 29 & 30.......2007.The four most memorable days of my college life so far.......And without any doubt, those were the fourdays of REBECA'07.........my 'FIRST' REBECA.Well, its that part of the year again......its April and its 2009...........the year of the Slumdog, the Lok SabhaElections and many more.........but for us BEings, it is REBECA time............So,let the journey begin............'REBECA' stands for Re-Union and B.E.College Annuals. And as the name rightly suggests, REBECAtruly is the celebration of the spirit of togetherness that has been inculcated in our minds by our gloriousalumni, teachers and every other person belonging to the BESU fraternity. At no other time do we get achance to meet our alumni the way we do during REBECA. A meeting with each alumnus is a source ofinspiration for us, one that gives us immense satisfaction, for each alumnus is a reflection of the heightsthat a BEing can reach, of what a BEing is capable of. The bond that is palpably existent among all theBEINGS is all the more visible in the atmosphere of REBECA. Afterall, that is what makes REBECAwhat it is today, for us and for the world.REBECA is a fusion of creativity and culture, glamour and glitz, commitment and nostalgia, inspirationand togetherness. It is a platform for all BEINGS to showcase the immense amount of potential thatthey have on a larger stage. As we all, eagerly await this gala festival, an intense feeling of euphoria hauntsour expectant minds...........We are all too excited to book ourselves a seat in this roller coaster ride. Our minds are full of expectation and hope that the 71 st chapter of the annual re-union and collegefestival,REBECA'09 will live up to the standards set by its glorious past and pave the right path for thefuture of bringing together the young and the old under the loving and caring umbrella of our belovedAlma Mater. We have missed REBECA once......But let us all pledge that it will never happen again. So, BEings.......................lets uncork the spirit of REBECA'09.Sandip KumarGeneral SecretaryREBECA 2009xvii

The legacy is furthered by thepublication of BECA 2009.This souvenir is a snapshot of our existence.
