In celebrating Maryland<strong>Women</strong>’s History, we stroveto be inclusive of the greatdiversity am<strong>on</strong>g Marylandwomen. We <str<strong>on</strong>g>not</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong>ly wantedto highlight renowned Marylandwomen, such as HarrietTubman, Rachel Cars<strong>on</strong>, andot<str<strong>on</strong>g>her</str<strong>on</strong>g>s, but also wanted toinclude the “unsung <str<strong>on</strong>g>her</str<strong>on</strong>g>oines”in our families, communitiesand places of work andworship.In 2003, the Maryland<strong>Women</strong>’s History Projectdeveloped the “Maryland<strong>Women</strong>’s Heritage Trail.” Inc<strong>on</strong>juncti<strong>on</strong> with local historicalassociati<strong>on</strong>s and commissi<strong>on</strong>sfor women, more than150 Maryland sites wereidentified w<str<strong>on</strong>g>her</str<strong>on</strong>g>e women hadmade unique c<strong>on</strong>tributi<strong>on</strong>s,some in every county and inBaltimore City. In additi<strong>on</strong>, it wasimportant to provide a homefor the Maryland <strong>Women</strong>’sHall of Fame, which wasestablished by the <strong>Women</strong>Legislators of Maryland withthe Maryland Commissi<strong>on</strong>for <strong>Women</strong> in 1985.
