AMCS Bulletin 12 — Chapter 5 95applied to olla exteriors. Like the Komchen material, slip is thick and well-adhered, but is also highlypolished and extremely glossy. Unlike some of themore translucent slips in the Komchen collection, which tend to reveal the red tones of the underlyingpaste, they are always opaque and consistent.Crazing is present but the slip resists flaking. Creamcolor ranges from 10YR 7/3 (with areas of 10YR6/4) to a more pinkish 7.5YR 6/4-8/4. The vesselexteriors appear to have been well-smoothed priorto the application of the cream slip. Surprisingly, olla interiors appear to have been fully slipped aswell. Interior slip, which is polished and smoothto the touch, is Sierra-like in color (5YR 4/6) yetlustrous rather than waxy. Vessel interiors werelightly smoothed prior to the application of slip. Itis possible that the brilliant cream slip of thesesherds could be a regional attribute or represent adistinct sphere/tradition for this type (Ball, personalcommunication 2000).Kuche Incised: KucheGroup: DzudzuquilEstablished by: Andrews V 1989:23–24Regional Inter-Cave Distribution and Frequency:Actun Toh 4, Actun Pech 2Regional Intersite Distribution: N/RRepresentative General Distribution: Komchen(Andrews V 1989:23–24)Description: See Andrews V 1989:23–24Type Collection Reference: Komchen Y-11-4Forms Present in Caves: Olla (lip dia: 21–31cm),Cajete (lip dia: 18cm)Illustrations: 5.4, a–eDiscussion: The broad and shallow circumferentialincisions described by Andrews V were present ononly one olla rim.
