His <strong>ADR</strong> practice since then has covered a spectrum of businessrelatedmatters, including insurance, real estate and finance, commercial and entertainmentcontracts, partnership and corporate disputes, business torts, investment and securities,intellectual property, environmental liabilities, professional liability (other than medicalmalpractice), employment and similar matters, occasionally also including catastrophic injurymatters in which insurance issues were prominent.Justice <strong>Zebrowski</strong>’s <strong>ADR</strong> practice consists primarily of mediation and arbitration. He alsoconducts temporary judge trials and judicial reference proceedings, and has acted as aprovisional corporate director for a real estate holding company. On occasion he also consults onappeals and major motions, assists in development of litigation, arbitration and mediationstrategy, and handles discovery references.Although Justice <strong>Zebrowski</strong> has mediated cases in New York, London, Washington, Atlanta,Denver, San Francisco, San Diego, Fresno, Santa Barbara, Ventura, the Inland Empire, PalmSprings and other California cities, the bulk of his work is done in Los Angeles County. Hispractice has included cases ranging from quite modest in size to those involving many millionsof dollars, and also cases in which business or other non-monetary issues predominated.Justice <strong>Zebrowski</strong> has regularly been named by the Los Angeles Daily Journal as one of the“Top Neutrals” in California, most recently in 2013. Justice <strong>Zebrowski</strong> also recently served asChair of the California Law Revision Commission and is also a member of the BAJI Civil JuryInstructions Committee.California Court of Appeal, 1995-1999:Justice <strong>Zebrowski</strong> authored 48 published opinions. (complete list atwww.adrservices.org). He also joined in (or dissented from) approximately 100 other publishedopinions, and in total participated in several thousand appellate and writ decisions. He attendedappellate judge’s training at NYU in 1997 and 1998.Los Angeles Superior Court, 1982-1995:Justice <strong>Zebrowski</strong> served in civil assignments for all of his 13 years on the SuperiorCourt. He served for seven years in law and motion and writs and receivers, and six years in civiltrial departments, including five years in downtown fast track. He was often designated as judgefor all purposes in complex business cases (i.e., the consolidated Executive Life class actions,environmental insurance coverage claims, large unfair competition claims, various othercomplex real estate and business matters). During his Superior Court service Justice <strong>Zebrowski</strong>served as a consultant to the BAJI Committee, drafted the annotated code commentary to the lis


<strong>Hon</strong>. <strong>John</strong> <strong>Zebrowski</strong><strong>Resume</strong> – Page 2 of 2pendens law, for many years edited Civil Procedure Before Trial (The Rutter Group), coauthoredCalifornia Pre-Judgment Money Remedies (West), served on the Board of Governorsof the ABTL and on the executive committees of the LACBA Litigation Section and IntellectualProperty and Entertainment Section, taught for many years at Loyola Law School, wrote andlectured widely on civil litigation, electronic discovery and related subjects, was otherwise activein bar matters, etc. He attended the California Judicial College in 1983 and 1987, subsequentlytaught injunctions at the College. He served on the Los Angeles – Leningrad liaison committeein 1990-1992.USA Petroleum Corporation, 1981-1982:Justice <strong>Zebrowski</strong> served as Assistant Secretary and Assistant General Counsel of formerclient USA Petroleum Corporation in Santa Monica. His duties covered the spectrum of issuesarising in corporate operations, including contracts, UCC, finance and credit, insurance,environmental, real estate, personnel, regulatory proceedings, mergers and acquisitions,securities, international trade, etc. Justice <strong>Zebrowski</strong> also held a real estate broker’s license atthis time and conducted real estate transactions.Private Practice, Los Angeles, 1975-1981:Justice <strong>Zebrowski</strong> practiced business litigation with the firms of McCutchen, Black,Verleger & Shea (now Baker & Hostetler) and Schwartz, Alschuler & Grossman (now AlschulerGrossman LLP). Areas involved included insurance, contracts, banking and finance, real estate,entertainment, construction, antitrust, admiralty, high tech, international trade and otherbusiness-related areas.Georgetown University Law Center, 1972-1975:Justice <strong>Zebrowski</strong> received his J.D. in 1975 from Georgetown, where he served as a lawreview editor. His student note has been cited several times by Federal appellate courts. He alsoworked as a legislative analyst for the Department of Interior, analyzing and drafting proposedlegislation in the environmental and natural resources area.University of Pennsylvania, 1966-1970:Justice <strong>Zebrowski</strong> received a B.A. with honors from the University of Pennsylvania(Philadelphia) in 1970. He majored in an interdisciplinary program divided between the Whartonbusiness school and the College of Arts & Sciences, emphasizing economics, business andinternational affairs.Personal:Justice <strong>Zebrowski</strong> was born on August 31, 1948, in Pennsylvania. He has three childrenand lives in Glendale, California.
